Perceive and Spirit Death 11/28/2015 05:29 PM CST
It would be a great QoL improvement if Clerical Perceive had a messaging line informing the cleric in the event of spirit death.

Instead of:
> perc <Player>
As you concentrate, a thin silver nimbus flickers into view around <Player's> head. You sense the Rejuvenation spell upon her, guarding her memories from further decay.
Her soul is bound to her body.
Her body will decay in less than an hour.
<Player> has six favors with her god.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

An additional line at the end:
> perc <Player>
As you concentrate, a thin silver nimbus flickers into view around <Player's> head. You sense the Rejuvenation spell upon her, guarding her memories from further decay.
Her soul is bound to her body.
Her body will decay in less than an hour.
<Player> has six favors with her god.
<Player> succumbed to spirit death. Resurrection is out of your mortal hands.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

spirit death prevents resurrection now?

Yes, (I'm guessing since 2009).

It's pretty easy for an inexperienced cleric to spend considerable time looking for someone who can't be found and chalk it up to low skill on their part or low favors on the part of the corpse.

It's pretty rare to die from spirit death, shouldn't the deader be able to tell people how they died?

Spirit deaths tend to happen with inexperienced players who don't understand there's a distinction between vitality death and spirit death. GR mechanics are murderous and almost no one uses consent consistently.

I've seen more than a few clerics spend an hour+ searching the void for someone who has died a spirit death.

I've always hated GR mechanics. :|

There should really be a giant monsterbolded OOC warning when you get your first pulse of spirit damage from a GR'd item at the very least.

I thought there was.

I confess it's been some years since I've graverobbed anyone (heh) but I only recall some quasi-IC messaging about dishonorable thieving etc etc and messaging about a burning sensation in the soul with each spirit hit. Which, frankly, is pretty explicit, but if the issue is making it crystal clear what is happening to newbies who might not know how GR mechanics work, something more might need to be put in. If there already is, then that's something that was added in relatively recently, because I don't recall it.

I am surprised that a cleric could not vigil link the deader and bring spirit levels up enough to raise them.

That would be nice too. It's pretty easy to bring a corpse up to 100% spirit via vigil but you still can't find them to raise them.

How odd. Spirit death used to result in a forced instant depart. That doesn't happen anymore? As said above, Vigil should fix that issue. I always cast Vigil as the first part of the process myself, since I've had a corpse hit the end of their timer while I was looking for their soul in the Void.

Vigil will maintain spirit energy and delay autodepart (as long as you keep feeding them spirit energy) but Vigil will not allow you to find someone in the Void when they've died a spirit death or resurrect them.

>Spirit death used to result in a forced instant depart. That doesn't happen anymore?

You see a greatly decreased timer on autodepart from spirit death but it's not a forced instant depart. Even if the corpse in question is rolling with minimum charisma they get a few minutes before autodepart.
