Vicar and Zealot are in there. THINK Devout is there, and THINK Moonies have Prophet.

I really like yer suggestion in your signature, Bambina.

Ebil.

Match Maker would be funny... Combine that with "of Elanthia" and you'd the the most popular Cleric ever!

Particularly Proseltye, Rector, Anchorite, Confessor, Apostle, and Vestal.

Based on Terry Goodkind's "Wizard's First Rule", I always saw this as an empath title, but out of that context, perhaps it works better for clerics.

Bishop
Arch Bishop
I think these two should be entered in for the general cleric titles, we got priest, brother, monk, and father, why not?
Reply
Re: Titles 06/19/2005 09:18 PM CDT
This may seem like an odd idear to some folks, but I think Bishop and Arch bishop ahould be purchased titles. Now mind you I have two pints on board and jet lag, but the idea occurred to me that some titles- such as Bishop- are more geographical titles- such as the Archbishop of Canterbury for a real life example.

When I mean purchased titles- I mean that they should either be purchasable(as an example of the corrupt elanthean world, or because it fits in character- wouldn't a bishop of Kertigen buy his position?) or earnable by some feat. I think that each Bishop position should be unique in some way- Bishop of Kertigen of Riverhaven for example.

For those inclined towards RP goals or for those who want a use for their tons of plats, some titles would be nice if they were unique.

I think they have to have a black soul to use those titles. Anyone with rock bottom devotion checked their titles?

Well, see its really hard for a cleric to be a heretic.

Even an evil cleric isn't a heretic only really following the edict of their god. You can't be an evil paladin and not be a heretic.

Heretic is someone who goes against the beliefs of their god. So if say your a cleric of Trothfang and instead of killing and creating a brutal massacre of flesh and bone, you spread flowers and joy throughout the world and help little innocent children find their way home, well then your a heretic. So you can be good and be a heretic, be evil and not be one.

Re: Titles 06/21/2005 01:04 AM CDT
I was thinking the same thing. The dark side of the pantheon makes it difficult to perform an action that is not appreciated by at least one Immortal's Aspect.

That one cult leader who appeared on a trading card would be a good Heretic. In that he did not acknowledge the primacy of the 13.

I do like the title "Apostate" though. But it would be tricky to RP it.

Heresy is not actually going against the teaching of God(s)as much as going against the recognized religion.

For instance the Cathars didnt go against the teaching of the bible.they did however strongly disagree with the ruling catholic church.this is what made them heretics.

On an elanthian note.I could see clerical heretics having odd beliefs that dont fit in with the established guild belief structure.

Re: Titles 06/21/2005 11:50 PM CDT
Actually, if you want to get technical, a heretic isn't someone who goes against the established religion.

A heretic is someone who goes against the teachings of the roman catholic church.

So everybody in DR is essentially a heretic, in real life muslams are heretics, buddhist are heretics, several other religions are heretics.

Re: Titles 06/22/2005 12:00 AM CDT
...Almost. That's only half the definition.

according to the OED (which i hate, but will use..)

"theological or religious opinion or doctrine maintained in opposition, or held to be contrary, to the `catholic? or orthodox doctrine of the Christian Church, or, by extension, to that of any church, creed, or religious system, considered as orthodox. By extension, [heresy is an] opinion or doctrine in philosophy, politics, science, art, etc., at variance with those generally accepted as authoritative."

The second sentence is the other half.

So a heretic paladin would be one who does not act as paladins should.

A heretic of a Cleric would be one such as a follower of Aldauth, or Urrem'tier, that resurrects. Put simply. Thus deserving the title of Heretic.

Re: Titles 06/22/2005 01:52 AM CDT
Actually, I don't believe Urrem'tier gets offended by ressurections. The other gods, mainly Hodierna, merely ask that he grant them the favor of returning life to you. I honestly doubt he really cares wether or not you get dragged into the void. He is without emotion or wants and needs. What would probably be against urremtier would be actually saving a person from dying.

Aldauth, merely wishes all those to suffer before they die.

While a cleric of urremtier may not help a dying man, a cleric of aldauth would poison them to make sure they die painfully. A cleric of Elyhaar would do the mercy killing thing giving them a quick painless death rather then have them suffer their last few moments.

Least thats how I always viewed it.

I was the first to go on record as saying that new titles were retarded. I'd like to say that I was wrong. Titles are cool. Really cool. Not as cool as using a police scanner, a radar jammer, and Google Earth to bust meth labs (the only thing cool about speed is that it inspired that Third Eye Blind song), but pretty doggone cool, Bubba.

Nope.

This is what Cadd suggested for its reqs:
-150 foraging
-150 shield
-200 weapon
-350 TM

This is what I suggested:
-300 TM
-200 swimming
-150 foraging

Either way, I lack Foraging.

Are the new titles added with thieves in mind too, i hope if they require rituals their properly substituted for charisma like we were told.

Also for swamp shaman what skill would thieves use for replacement for TM, it just says other survivals on the play.net page.

If it substituted stalking or hiding then i should have swamp shaman if it went by aeths suggestion might need a bit more for cadd's foraging.

Curious cause shalade doesnt have it so it must be foraging but trying to figure out the other stuff

I'm not going to reveal what skills are required for pretend titles. But if the title dosen't show up when you use TITLE then you are missing something.

I can't say with confidence that this is or isn't the last batch. I would venture to guess that it isn't but I could be wrong. Also remember that there are several more titles in this batch that you won't be able to see just yet because some of the reqs are missing.

If these are the last theres always the chance of a custom title.
