Because there's already 'string' in game that's a jewelry item, I've given the box a slightly different name to hint it's use/nature.

A Strung box is a pre-made box that a bard can buy. It can hold sets of playable string replacements and only weighs two stones. The beauty of the box is that it only counts as 2 items like lockpick rings do.

Along the same thinking lines as reducing weight, I actually would rather some form of enchantment that makes a container that I already have "weightless" in a sense.

I keep my standard instrument set, a cloth, a repair kit and 10 or so repair kit refils and string sets in a duffel bag(which is larger than a regular instrument case). Having some way to turn this bag of mine into a designated duffel bag of holding would be awesome, though I imagine the fact that the instrument skills are being combined will make it so I only have to carry around one instrument so w/e.

The satchels from the last fest hold a ton, I put all my instruments and various stuff in one to carry around. :)

A container like this would be amazing though, even if I really had to jump through hoops to get it. :P

I am a little sad that we will only have to carry around one instrument, I have so many and will miss them a bit.

IIRC you can still carrying around and play all of them. They'll just all teach the same skill :P

Why carry any? you can still Hum while you sing your enchantes..... no reason to play an instrument ever again really, as long as you keep an enchante always going

Roleplay or, assuming certain enchantes require certain instruments and aren't all sung, would be another reason.

It would be nice if bards could have a rotating case (like spellbook cases) where you could fit up to 6-8 instruments with their drum stick or whichever and one slot for cleaning/fixing tools without overmuch burden. Do spellbook cases have a set weight?

Although, I guess you could stuff everything in some haversack or rucksack or backpack? The OCD-nature in me finds it a bit icky to dump all those pretty instruments in one backpack though

Sorry, I haven't played a bard in so long, I can't remember how many instruments could fit in one container. I remember having 4 different containers just to hold a bunch of instruments and finding it a pain.

One of the downsides that I found is that while RP-wise my (under 20th) bard was going to be some virtuoso in multiple musical instruments, my STR and STAM stat prevented me from being that AND hunting. But this becomes less of an issue once you reach a certain level and have trained those stats high enough.

That being said, the direction of bards in the past few years have changed quite a bit and I haven't paid attention to the bardic circle reqs, so it seems functionally impractical to carry more than one or two instruments except for rp reasons.

I like the spellbook case idea, but I seem to rememmber it coming up before and being rejected as taking too much time for one instrument case, that only one guild find of usefulness. As was explained at the time, it would take a lot of time to code something like a spellbook case for bards.

I believe drum sticks can fit into misc. compartment of spellbook cases, small herbs also fit in there. If I remember rightly you can also put a songbook in the spellbook compartment. I've always kept my songbook in the satchel I got from Wren Faire though, and song scrolls will fit into the spell scroll compartment.

It would be nice if we could stuff all of our instruments into one case, have it count as 2 stones, and the case had it's own interactive verbs. I've yet to see very many instrument cases with interactivity much beyond I open it, put my stuff in, and close it again. Perhaps would be interesting if we had a special instrument case we could close using a bardic knot as a telepathic or emotion-based key. Perhaps instrument cases you would need to recall before you could open/close them, as a unique 'locking device'.

I would be more interested in seeing different shapes and more artistic representations of cases.

I have this belt worn 'lockpick' case I got from a wedding that I transfered all of my instruments too, 1) because it looks REALLY cool (thanks Dreadnym & Karissa), and 2) because I like to have an instrument case I can lock for rp reasons. Even though.. it's not really an instrument case.

With a lid that resembles a shingled roof, the large house is artfully decorated with shuttered windows and a closed door. Translucent ghosts are painted across the front, each of them with a different expression on their face to make up a range between mischievous glee and horror. A small imp perches on the top of the mailbox, which is right next to the door. Silver script decorates the mansion's base.
> tap ironwood case
You tap a fine ironwood case shaped and decorated to resemble a haunted mansion.

I carry lots of instruments, it's always been a long-term habit of mine, even after I outgrew many of them I just held onto them. Many of them have different uses and abilities that I happen to like. Some of them are just too gorgeous to be sitting in a vault somewhere gathering dust.

Somehow along the way I lost my ebony viol inlaid with goldbark which I dearly miss. I've checked my vaults, etc, and I don't see it anywhere. I don't remember having a fiddle that I found in my pack but.. memories fickle coming back. I might've given it away? I can't recall doing so though.

There's a flute case item from Wren Faire that was given extra pockets that emoted a bit when you put something not an instrument into the case. I believe once upon a time, instruments would take damage if you put anything else other than the instrument or bardic tool into the case. I have no idea if this is still in effect, I think it may have been removed because it caused bard's too much trouble, especially with the other issues surrounding instrument damage, and no other guild was suffering those kinds of high penalties with their stuff.

There were also the bardic blue bags clasped with a silver keg that were given 'instrument case' status not to damage instruments.

When I returned to the realms I immediately cut my instruments down to 3-4, instead of 7 or 8. :P It used to be fun to have different ones, mostly for RP but also because I love the instrument aspect of being a Bard.

I have a whole vault full of just musical items, instruments and containers, cloths, stuff to play instruments and so on. I feel sad that I don't pull them out to play on anymore.

I'm guessing I am in the minority though. :)

You're not Blayd. I recently (and still am) culling the hoard of instruments I had. Apparently I felt I needed to collect one of each kind.

Now I have a nice one and one I'm okay playing in weather if needed.

I've also found, since we're talking about cases - that the harp case from the Theren Theatre shop holds a fair amount of instruments. It's the sturdy leather harp case, located here: http://elanthipedia.com/wiki/Rose_of_the_Theater

However, it's just a case and not verbed. But I'm not really a fan of too much verbed stuff anyway, particularly when it gets a lot of use as it tends to be repetitive and gets on my nerves. But it's a decent sized container.

I will more than likely continue to carry around an instrument case filled with my most expensive and prized peices. One for the rp aspect of being a Bard, naturally, but also the fact that they teach me great appraisal. :)
