The Brainstormening 09/28/2010 02:04 AM CDT
Once again I turn to you all for a bit of inspiration.

What I'm looking for is cosmetic perks that would logically make sense with Heritages.

Titles are a given.

Spell preps are off limits for now.

One thing in particular I'm looking for is variants on verbs - both replacement messages (Normal person does X but someone of the heritage does Y) and additional options (Normal person can do X, Y and Z, but a member of the Heritage can also do A, B and C. Think Snap for Humans vs non-Humans).

Otherwise - let ideas flow.

Does cosmetic include modifying combat messaging as well, or are we talking strictly fluff verbs?

Depends on what you mean.

The bulk of the combat messaging system is terrifying - nothing involving it is easy nor simple. Honestly anything involving it likely skips right past "non-trivial" "hard" "complex" and lands in "The code nightmares are made of".

However something like "My screams look different from his screams" would be more possible.

Songsworn: Songsworn Sam stretches in practice- But it looks suspiciously like calisthenics rather than simply preparing to play an instrument.

Differences in DANCE <weapon>. I always wish it was more detailed.

Alright, let's see...

WINK <character> <heritage>
Songsworn - A grin crosses Bard's lips as he/she gives you a confident wink.
Taleweaver - Bard fires imaginary crossbow bolts in your direction with a sly wink.
Lorekeeper - Bard smiles knowingly as he/she winks at you.

TAP <weapon> <heritage>
Songsworn - Bard flicks the tip of his/her weapon causing it to hum with a slight vibration for a moment.

SNAP <heritage>
Songsworn - Bard snaps fiercly which seems to send an echo throughout the area.

DANCE <weapon> <heritage>
Taleweaver - Bard performs a series of wide arcing motions with his/her weapon.

KNEEL <character> <heritage>
Songsworn - Bard looks straight into your eyes and kneels before you.
Taleweaver - Bard quickly bobs into a kneeling position before you.
Lorekeeper - Bard takes to a kneeling position beside you.

TUMBLE
Songsworn - Bard does a quick cross body flip in midair, landing in a prepared stance.
Taleweaver - Bard performs a series of sommersaults before vaulting into the air with a quick flip, landing gracefully.

That's all I got.

My suggestion is that, within this even if you do have the heritage, you should still be able to go back and forth, just incase someone likes the normal (however I don't think Taleweavers, should be able to grab Lorekeeper things).

Is load and wield weapon considered combat (or is it draw, darn my current inability to get to a computer that can run my character).

In full agreement with this. That's why I think you should need to type in the heritage house after each verb that it alters in order to get the special messaging.

I thought that was what you were getting at, but just in case, I wanted to throw it out.

And also swap [weapon], might be something a songsworn might have something cool for, if you know that isn't a combat change.

I was specifically referring to combat messages, as in the messages you get when you attack/are attacked by something.

The others are potentially possible. I'd have to check some of the code to be sure however.

I have always wanted the dance weapon verb to be better!

> dance stonebow
You do an impressive display of agility with your stonebow.

dance weapon hat
You lift your weapon into the air dancing around with it over your head!

dance weapon smooth
You bring your weapon up and down in smooth fluid movements.

dance weapon salute
You bring your weapon down, and then reverse it holding it stiffly at your side.

dance weapon cobweb
You lift your weapon as high as it will go, swirling it around in a quick pinpoint you tear a cobweb from it's place of residence, letting the spider's silk flow down your blade to the ground.

dance weapon aggressive
You lift your weapon up and move forward aggressively seeking openings as you crisscross lashing it in the air before you.

dance weapon defensive
You lift your weapon up and hold it out in front of you at shield level ready to raise or lower it to parry any incoming blows.

dance weapon impressive
You do a mind-bending display of agility and grace with your weapon. You are to be feared!
