HSN Week 5: New Enchante System -- New verbs and changes to old. 07/10/2003 08:49 PM CDT
Hello, Hello!

My, you all look familiar. If you've stuck with me through three posts, then you are to be congratulated. :) What follows here is a description of several of the new verbs that you may utilize with the new enchante system, along with some updates on how to use the old ones.

Verb: MANA SONG

As a Bard, by typing "MANA" alone, you should see a line similar to the one below:
"You are currently starting all enchantes at two(2) mana or minimum prep, whichever is greater."

You may control the amount of mana that you use with each of your enchantes by using "MANA SONG #", where the # is replaced by a number of some sort. This allows you to control the strength of your enchantes, for many will be stronger or produce a wider variety of effects if you manage to add more mana into them. Adding more mana may also help you to overcome Magical Resistance (MR), should you successfully do so without backfiring your enchante.

MANA SONG may be used at any time during your performance of an enchante to raise or lower the amount of mana going into it. If you set MANA SONG too low, below the smallest amount an enchante would require, the enchante will automatically use that minimum amount when you attempt to perform it.

Verb: PLAY, SING, CHANT

Each of these verbs have been updated so that you no longer need to specify either an instrument or a tool when attempting to perform an enchante. Where under the old system you would have needed to type "play hodierna's lilt on my lute with pick", under the new one you will just need to type "play hodierna's lilt" or "play lilt" in order to perform your enchante. So long as you have the appropriate instrument and tool, of course.

Verb: PLAY WITH, SING WITH, CHANT WITH

When using the "PLAY WITH" option with someone who is already playing an enchante, you attempt to follow along with their performance. This will enhance the original player's efforts and add a small amount of power to the enchante they are performing. While you do not necessarily need to know the enchante the original person is performing in order to "SING WITH" them, your performance would be much more effective if you did. Only a certain amount of people will be able to aid a performer at any one time.

As was mentioned in a previous post, if you are performing an enchante and enter a room where another person already resides who is playing the same enchante, if you each have the necessary skills you will automatically slip into "PLAY WITH" mode. This makes it so that, rather than allowing your enchantes to clash, it instead becomes a single, stronger whole.

Guildleaders

You will encounter some changes in how you need to ask your Guildleaders about your songbooks and enchantes. The new 'syntax', or the line which you type to ask them questions, will look very familiar to you members of the other spellcasting guilds because it now uses the same mechanics.

To ask your guildleader about a specific songbook, you will need to type "ask <guildleader> about <songbook_name> book". An example of this would be "ask Silvyrfrost about Ballads and Romances songbook", or "ask Silvy about ballad book". As you can see, you don't have to necessarily type out the entire line all the time.

To ask your guildleader about a specific enchante, you will need to type "ask <guildleader> about <enchante_name> enchante". An example of this would be "ask Ezruh about Eillie's Cry enchante", or "ask Ezruh about Cry enchante".

To choose an enchante from your guildleader, you will need to type "choose <enchante_name> enchante" while in the presence of your guildleader. An example of this would be "choose Misdirection enchante", or "choose misd enchante".

As always, if you have any questions or problems with any of the information contained in any of these posts, please use your scroll-bar to go all the way to the bottom of the post and click the link you find there.
