Steel Ingot Oddity? 06/24/2011 08:36 PM CDT
Has something changed in the steel ingots in test? I popped in there today to try some different things out, and the two very large ingots (120 volume and 170 volume)using store quality massive ingots and they both came out as mediocre quality. I have all the smelting techs in test, and 270 mech. The first time the crucible and my rod were practically in mint condition, and the second time, they were pristine.

I've made big ingots like that in the past, and after refining (hence the size), they were masterful.

I then repeated it, using pristine tools, with 40 volume, and it was repeated:

You analyze every minute detail of the steel ingot and smile knowingly to yourself.
This appears to be a type of refined metal ingot that is of mediocre quality.
The ingot is an extremely easy piece to make.
It was made by someone with abilities close to your own skill.
About 40 volume of metal was used in this item's construction.
The metal appears to be composed of: 100.00% medium carbon steel.
You find it impossible to identify who crafted this item.
Roundtime: 10 sec.

The store ingot purity has dropped to 50 from 70.

And since the quality of the ingot is directly tied to the purity, that's why.
