Stuck on a favor riddle (Riverhaven) 07/03/2007 06:40 AM CDT
Hi, I'm a new player and still at circle one. I know favors are very important so I thought I'd get a start on them and followed DIR FAVOR to a temple outside of Riverhaven and obtained an orb.

However, I have been completely stuck on the riddle I have to solve to get out of the room with my orb. I'm not expecting someone to give me the solution but I'd be grateful for a hint or an indication of where I'm going wrong. Here is the room and what I see...

[Siergelde, Labyrinth]
You find yourself standing in a completely square room of shining obsidian walls, ceiling and floor. Simple sconces hold barely-lit reed torches, which cast a faint glow upon the mirrorlike surfaces. On one wall, you see a corroded brass plaque glinting softly against the shadows. You also see an odd hanging mounted high upon the wall.
Obvious exits: none.
>look hanging
High on the wall, but just within reach, is an odd hanging of wood, with six sets of bones stretching across its length.
>look bones
Two femur bones are crossed and bound to form an X.
>touch first bones
You reach out and touch the third set of bones.
>touch second bones
You reach out and touch the first set of bones.
>touch third bones
You reach out and touch the second set of bones.
>touch fourth bones
You reach out and touch the fourth set of bones.
>touch fifth bones
You reach out and touch the sixth set of bones.
>touch sixth bones
You reach out and touch the fifth set of bones.

The plaque says to "Search diligently for all things." but I don't get anything when I try SEARCH.

I've played around with the bones a lot, TOUCHing them in different orders/combinations (note the bone you touch is different from the number you enter). I've also tried several combinations with RUB.

I'm at wits end, most verbs I know don't work with the bones. My exp which was mindlocked when I went in has completely drained. I can't think what else to try and getting very frustrated partly because I don't understand a lot of this game yet. I've spent 2 hours browsing through forums and websites for a clue and the only thing I came up with is that it's much easier to get favors from the Crossing. So what do new people in Riverhaven do? Any advice would be very appreciated.

I can't work out how to edit my original post above but I just realised I can TURN each set of bones and get messaging relating to whether I have made a mistake so it should be easy to figure out now. D'oh, how did I not try that earlier! I had tried TURN but not so specifically. Anyways sorry to bother, I should be able to figure this out on my own now.

You know if you get stuck and you don't want to figure it out you can drop the orb right? It'll break and you'll leave the labyrinth

Just to throw it out there, favor puzzles are the same in Crossing and Riverhaven. When you get your orb, there's a door and an arch. One is the easier puzzles, the other the harder (which is what you were in). In general, I find it best to do the easier puzzles with few favors, and the harder with more. The reason for this is that the more favors you have, the more "puzzle points" you need to get out of the favor area. The hard puzzles require far less repetition because they seem to award more "puzzle points."

There are also other ways to get orbs, but I'll leave that for you to discover.

No edit button on these forums.

There are other ways out, too, depending on the puzzle. However, things can get really buggy for you after that, so I very strongly recommend using only the method above to abandon a favor puzzle.

But if you're a Cleric it'll tank your devotion... not that it's hard to gain it back if you know how.

Welcome to Dragonrealms, Sarangheyo. It's a great place, and we're glad to have you. As some of the folks on the boards have suggested, you might want to try the easier puzzles for favors at first (though I confess, I love the complexity of the hard ones - I'm weird like that).

Don't hesitate to ask the mentors for help, too - they're also on the DIR list. Just ring the bell if nobody's there at the time.
