Alteration Help 05/20/2011 02:26 PM CDT
I have this cloak:
tap: a white spidersilk cloak artfully stitched with the image of a golden dragon
look: Depicted with its wings unfurled, the serpentine creature has its mouth poised as if about to swallow the moon Katamba. A border of intricate knotwork runs along the hems, adding an extra touch of elegance. Clasping the garment at the throat is a cabochon cat's eye quartz.

That I'm going to try and use an LTB scroll to turn into one of the following:

- a flowing white duelist's longcoat cut at the shoulders
- a flowing sleeveless longcoat of pure white steelsilk
- a flowing white sleeveless longcoat tailored for dueling
- a flowing sleeveless longcoat of brilliant white steelsilk
- a flowing sleeveless dueling longcoat of brilliant white steelsilk
- an unsleeved duelist's longcoat of flowing brilliant white steelsilk

Which out of the six options above would you choose for a dual-wielding rogue/ninja/bard/bladesman, and why?

a flowing white sleeveless longcoat tailored for dueling

Though I'd swap out sleeveless for steelsilk.

Why? I don't like the way sleeveless coat forms an image in my head. Tailored for dueling already implies easy of movement and perhaps some trapping type potential. I find the steelsilk to be more interesting than the sleeveless.

However, I would reword it to be....

a sleeveless duelist's longcoat of flowing brilliant white steelsilk

I like the idea of a flowing longcoat, always makes me think of this....

"Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long"

I agree with Lyathe's suggestion. But, "flowing brilliant white steelsilk" doesn't sound quite right, either.

I'd try to look for a replacement to "brilliant white" if at all possible or it winds up with a somewhat cluttered look. Alabaster, Isabelline, Ivory, Magnolia, perhaps something else?

"flowing steelsilk of brilliant white"?

Thank you all :)

I think I'm going to go with one of the following should I ever meet with a face-to-face. Or, if an alteration scroll takes care of the job. Just realized I'm 1.5 months shy of a scroll though!

- a flowing white duelist's longcoat without sleeves
- a flowing sleeveless white longcoat tailored for dueling
- a sleeveless duelist's longcoat of flowing white steelsilk

Leilond, since you're putting a combat spin on this alteration, is longcoat the noun you're looking for? Or maybe a surcoat ala what the crusaders wore over their mail. That's what I think of when you describe it as a long and flowing white sleeveless combat garment.

I get the impression that its more of a sleeveless Neo-esque longcoat rather than an historically inclined surcoat.

As a general note, many alterers are reluctant to change the actual noun of an item, so that can be a real hanging point.

I know that some sleeveless longcoats were sold at Magma Falls, possibly more recently that I'm unaware of. They were scripted the same as most greatcloaks, depending on what's special about the base item you're planning to use, it might be worth tracking one of those down to avoid potential snares since it's clear you've put a lot of thought into this alteration.

He's implying the rest of us don't put any effort into our alterations.

Such a meanie.

>>Kaxis, Surcoat

The surcoat is probably 85% accurate for what I'm trying to pull off, EXCEPT for that it is closed in front.

Really, Evran has it right on the head when he says, "I get the impression that its more of a sleeveless Neo-esque longcoat rather than an historically inclined surcoat."

Umm, the verbs on that Magma Fall Longcoat you're talking about are the exact same verbs of this cloak I am trying to get altered. Please see below--I think someone may have altered that longcoat to this cloak that I am wearing hahaha.

> grin cloak
You glance at a white spidersilk cloak artfully stitched with the image of a golden dragon and grin.
> hug cloak
You grasp the edges of your cloak tightly and wrap them around yourself, enveloping your body in a cocoon of spidersilk fabric.
> poke cloak
You lift one arm above your head, grasping the edge of your cloak in the other hand. Tumbling forward gracefully, you place your hand on the ground, executing a perfect one-handed cartwheel. Bringing the spidersilk edge of your cloak upward, you end with a flourishing bow.
> pull cloak
You pull up one edge of your cloak in front of you as you move in a two-step pattern, enveloping yourself in the voluminous spidersilk folds.
> push cloak
You take a confident step forward and then execute a single full turn, letting the long spidersilk edges of your cloak wrap around you one way and then the other.
> rub cloak
You run your fingertips along the edge of your cloak.
> snuggle cloak
You pull your spidersilk cloak close around you, enjoying the comfortable, almost snuggly warmth.
> tap cloak
You do a rather simple set of dance steps, moving one foot after another while tapping a rhythm on your spidersilk cloak.
> turn cloak
You take a quick quarter turn followed by a flourishing bow, your cloak billowing out behind you in a display of spidersilk material.
> wave cloak
You grasp both corners of the cloak and spread the fabric behind you, waving them lightly like a pair of billowing spidersilk wings.

Nevermind, I am blind. That same cloak is in that very same shop and is a bit more expensive.

What is the likely hood that that shop, or more precisely that longcoat, may make a re-appearance into the game? I'm pretty sure I am SOL on locating that exact longcoat from a player, as I've scoured trader plaza's, these DR boards in the item/buy folder and even external Yahoo! groups :(

Wow, thanks a MILLION for the heads up about that Magma Falls longcoat Raesh.

One of my friends actually had one of those exact longcoats--Go figure! I'm still recovering from the pleasant surprised, but am eternally grateful for that bit of information otherwise my chances of getting this item created would probably be slim to none :P

Thank you again everyone :)
