Ranger Campout Idea! 05/02/2006 12:42 PM CDT
<<(As for the Ranger part - I grew up in a big city, never even seen a farm in real life, never been camping, but would love to..only rode a horse twice hehe)..wonder if those from bigger cities tend to be Rangers? And vice versa?

I propose we host a camping trip for midwestern rangers!
I elect to designate Isle Royale, the wolf island on Lake Superior. :) (http://www.isle.royale.national-park.com/info.htm & http://www.wanderlust.co.uk/features/feat74b.html)

This would be a dream come true for me. And I imagine quite entertaining. :D

Though I am not certified with any organization, I am an expert on camping and wilderness survival and knowledgable from teachings and life practice on living systems within natural environments.

What say ye' rangers, keepers and vagrents?

With or without bird repellant?

The reserve -is- an island... but because so heavily wooded I imagine there to not be much of a population of sea-fairing and aquatic birds if you were worried about getting pooped on by a bird. There is quite a good amount of wetland area and lake and the smaller water birds and such can be found there. And there is a notable population of Loons and if the wolf calls can't be heard, you can always walk down to the lake at night to listen to the loons. :) The sound is so similar, I've heard that the only way to know the difference is that the hair on the back of your neck will only stand for one.

That sounds like a great idea, if I didn't live far south of that and if I wasn't completely broke ;) But if you do decide to do it, please let the rest of us know how it went!

I was referring to the other kind of bird, the one that generally only appears at dusk when it gets warm and seem to regard OFF! or Cutters or even Avon Skin-so-Soft (in my opinion, this works at least twice as better as the other two) the way a Mexican regards pepper spray.

Of course. Bats! (bird-rats)
I don't think you'd have much fun on this particular adventure if bats make you queezy. But I would encourage you to try! The baseball bat is the most effective natural detourant in this case.

The cost for 4 day camping at Isle Royale is $24.00 (US). This includes ferry toll, and state permit to camp.
It would work out great if a shared car ride situation could get worked out, I don't have a car myself or I'd offer. Just my honda bike.

I think the reference is to mosquitos, the official state bird of Wisconsin (and most upper mid-west states)
