A question 03/08/2008 12:08 PM CST
I gather this is a Prydaen and Rakash order. I am not sure what the purpose of this group is.

And to quote from the Charter:

Section IV. Goals
-To unite wayward Rakash and Prydaen
-To provide a home and family for those in need.
-To be ready and to defand the lands should the barrier fall.
-To provide a place, education, and help for the prydes, packs, Prydaen, and Rakash of the lands.

Ok. The question is this.

What sort of education?

What sort of home?

There have been groups that have gone over board to excess in teaching 'traditional' lore out of the in game books. Obviously we need to adapt to the east.

However, there have also been groups that have gone over board to excess in teaching adaptation to the east to the point where Rakash and Prydaen are ashamed of their racial heritage. They will not purr, trill, move their ear or tail, enjoy the foods they are most suited to eat, use their claws when brawling, use the racial titles or use their own language, etc, because they believe these things are rude and kittenish or puppyish.

All this reminds me of how some American Indian children were taught to see their own heritage in boarding schools at one time in America.

I would hope that this group is going for a happy medium. Teaching the lore but also how people have found to adapt. I'd love to be able to actually read your site.

As always, what is being taught depends on who is teaching it. I'll likely approve lectures before they are given, or at least talk at length with whoever it is that is giving the lecture.

Shadeau is not a hardcore traditionalist, but she still does hold the ideals. She realizes that things *can not* be as they were in the west, as the atmosphere has changed and what not, but that is not a reason why those things still shouldn't be passed down and remembered.

And home can mean many things, I suppose I mean it more in the sense of actually being able to feel like you belong somewhere, or to something, rather than being made to feel an outcast.

As of current (and as far as I know) Prydaen and Rakash have no where to go, period. There are no stable packs or prydes that I have seen. There is no Vreeland to go to every week to have your questions answered, no place to go to socialize with other Prydaen and Rakash. This needs to change.

I'm not very good at explaining things, if you haven't noticed lol. I think I need a PR person! At least I try?

Sounds like a good start.

There have been some very nice adaptations to traditional Prydaen food dishes that have been introduced in both Theren and Shard recently that you might want to share at your Teas.

I don't know if the Houses always served them. This might have been a consequence of the Prydaen that lived in Shard long before the migration as an Alchemist of note. You will find her story in the books in the Bard Guild in Crossing.

The other dishes are being serves by Lady Shantelle on her Buffet and I believe are due to her and her cook's effort to be the ideal host to all her guests. She has a number of Prydaen guests and she wishes to make everyone welcome at her table but does not wish to make any one uncomfortable either watching anyone else eat. So she has found a happy medium. She is truely a wonder.

If you care to share what they are I can see about adding them.

I did mainly goodies, some were suggestions by the Order GM. More of just things to munch on while chatting, not 'Hey, come sit and have a meal!' foods.

Foods: Cookies, muffins, cake, apple fritters.
Drinks: Coffee, tea, milk, fruit punch, strawberry water, fratvarit.

I did notice that I forgot bloodwine, I'll have to go back through my event request to double check that, and have it added for next time.

Next time I have a character in Shard I'll go check out the Houses again and next time I'm in Theren I'll go check out the Buffet in the Trigomas residence again, or if you get a chance take a peak. You are in for a real treat.

I particularily enjoy the one bite meat spears Lady Shantelle puts out.

In terms of non-meat dishes, in the desert I find the fresh melon slices in spices that the King puts out in Muspari very refreshing on a hot day. I have a fondness for fresh fruit as well as fresh meat. But then one of my main characters is desert Prydaen and perhaps this is why.

I had someone come before hand and ask me why I didn't have fresh foods.

Shadeau responded and said that this wasn't a Prydaen-only event, and that she didn't want to gross out any of the other races who might happen to attend.

The person retorted, saying that Shadeau I was trying to tell them that they should be ashamed of what they are.

I just cracked up. Shadeau was just like ... No, it's called being polite.

The person also mentioned that cookies, and the like, would make them sick.

Last I checked Prydaen were omnivores. Granted, it could have been the overdose of sugar they'd likely of gotten from eating too many sweats, but still.

Shadeau eats a wide variety of things, cooked meat included among those. Pot roast, anyone?

I imagine that the visitor felt that if you had no fresh food on the cart, it was a subtle indicator that Prydaen were not welcome, given the number hostile interactions recently that Prydaen have been faced with and the number of fresh things available that can be offered for Prydaen that do not have the sort of dramatic show the Shakahn's Grove food has. If the visitor came from the north or south, they more than likely were well familiar with the food offered in those places. Even freshly caught fish if scraped does not present a show that will gross people out. In addition, the mentor table in the Ranger Guild for Ranger Teaching nights regularily offers raw inkhorn haunch for their Prydaen guests, with no messaging that will gross out those not Prydaen.

I will just interject here, and say that some of the choices offered were probably my inexperience with the two specific races. To be perfectly honest, I confess to just wanting to help people get events 'out there'.

However, I have an offer to make. I am working on a 'standard' menu and we include foods tailored to specialised diets. So if you would like to send me say a dozen or so suggested foods, we can put them on the menu and they will be available for your future events.

The person didn't even ask me why I had no such foods, they just automatically jumped to conclusions. That's what bothers me.

And no, Ariawen, your suggestions were just fine. I wasn't planning on having any dinner-type foods, or any meats, hence why I didn't even list any myself.

If I had wanted a dinner party, I'd of thrown a dinner party.

It's just overly annoying to have someone come in and insult your work (even if it was amusing!) and not even ask why you're doing something the way that you're doing it.

I already have enough frustrations and get enough guff for running a racially-specific Order (almost every time I gweth at least one of the anti-prydaen snots has to chime in, or someone with some snarky remark about how Shadeau is racist, or something snippy about the Order only recruiting the two races). I really don't expect nor want extra guff from the two races that I'm busting ass for, I'm already subjecting myself to a lot.

I've been reading all this and getting more and more confused. Did Black Fox change it's charter and structure completely? I'm remembering a diplomatic based order for negotiations and message delivery system which I think somewhere we still have a bag full of sealed scrolls for. I take it all of this is gone and Black Fox is something completely different now than what we knew it as for years?

Let me see if I can run up to Shantelle's buffet and see if I can catch her ever changing thing just right. The spears are just one bite each and sound just right for this.

I don't know much about Rakash foods other than frat. But obviously their taste buds are different from other races given their response to frat as opposed to how other races respond to it.

I fully agree with the Lady Shantelle that one of the keys to making people relax and feel at home is to provide them with some of the foods and drinks from home. It's the small hospitable touches like that and attention to detail that tell people that you took the time to actually reach out to them and try to make them welcome for who they are.

So enough said. I'll try to get the info for you. I'm really swamped and I've been very ill and time is a real issue for me but I'll give it a shot.

I just had this same conversation with someone, and I too am curious.

Apparently. I still can't read the charter.

In any event.

Here is the food I found today on Shantelle's buffet in Theren and in the bank Muspari and in the fresh fruit stand in Hib.

It's not hard to find fresh food that is not 'rude' and will make people feel at home and welcome, since that seems to be your goal now.

chilled platter filled with thin delicate slices of raw orange grek garnished with lemon wedges, a bunch of plump juicy grapes, an elegant silver platter with spears of raw meat arranged atop crushed ice, some iced raw oysters served on half shells. a black plum, an orange, a crystal dish filled with snow pears poached in a delicate sweet white wine sauce.

I believe rakash like apples and hot and spicy so i'm guessing these might be good from her buffet:

a platter of Therenborough apple-glazed chicken, a gold platter filled with tiny snowbeast sausages skewered with little sword-shaped sticks and served with a spicy radish dip, a trencher of barbequed turkey legs brushed with a spicy glaze

Now, I'm afraid I really am very tired, not well, and have very little time and way too much to do. So I hope your order does well. Good luck.

Thanks for the foods info. I'll be sure to note it all down. You really didn't have to go all out of your way to get me the info, though, but I really appreciate it!

And yes, I've completely revamped the Fox. Ariawen told me just so long as my member count is up to par this should be fine. My current charter is still waiting on approval, but she wanted to get things going on her end with what she needs to do before she gets into charters and all of that.

Here are two different charter links for you, one of them should work at the least, DRAKEWARLORD.

The Order had been inactive for some time before I took over as Speaker, so I decided to do something different with it. I only ever remember like two or three events from it over the past few years.
