Tinkering in Prime. 05/22/2016 10:04 AM CDT
I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but it seems Tinkering has been partially released into Prime. The instruction books are available to be bought and you can ask for tinkering workorders. The tinkering tools and bolt supplies aren't in the society stores though.

Also, work orders can be given and the gear press is present in the crafting rooms within the guild but cannot be used when you try to <push fuel with shovel>

P.S. love the options in the master tinkering book. wondering if the soldiers in the toy section are siegery pieces.

Hey folks. Yes this is now live in FC. I didn't have any issues using the gear press. Please double-check for me?

Is Engineering Society Master Brogir supposed to respond to all inquiries about engineering techniques with "I cannot tell you anything about that technique."

He'll describe shaping and carving techniques, but not tinkering techniques.

Not sure why he isn't describing them. Looking into it.

There's no bolt flights for sale.

Also still having the same issue I was having in test as far as the system not asking you to use tinker's tools until you analyze because you can't proceed, as follows:

You dab the surface of your bolts with glue and attach the boltheads to them.

A handful of rough edges require carving with a knife to remove.
Roundtime: 18 sec.
>
You put your glue in your duffel bag.
>

You get a silversteel carving knife with a tempered blade from inside your duffel bag.
>
That tool does not seem suitable for that task.
>
You analyze every aspect of the ice-adder bolts and nod as your understanding grows.
When crafting is complete these will be a type of animal part bolts.
Several adjustments must be made to the bolt using a set of tinker's tools.
From the progress so far, it looks like the bolts are masterfully-crafted.
The bolts are an intricate piece to make.
You estimate that they are one-quarter done.
Roundtime: 9 sec.

maybe I'm doing something wrong

log:

>study press
This appears to be a device for pressing ingots into mechanisms.

A nearby sign explains proper use of the tool.

All Engineers please watch your limbs!

TURN the press to set a speed value
from 1 (slow) to 12 (fast). Note
that faster speeds will increase the
difficulty of use.

The press relies on heat to melt the
ingots. PUSH the pile of fuel with a
shovel if the fire has died down.

Warning - the press is hot. Please
hold pliers before operating!

PUSH a held ingot with the press to
first cut gears. Next, PULL a held
unfinished mechanism with the press
to draw out wire. This will produce
a completed mechanism for use with
other crafted items.

>get darkst deed
You get a deed for a darkstone ingot from inside your leather pack.
>tap deed
An attendant arrives, takes your deed and motions to two burly workers. The workers carefully load a darkstone ingot onto a sled, and drag it over in front of you.
You pick up the ingot.
>turn press to 6
You dial the device to 6 and ready it for pressing.

Ok I added the bolt flights. Working on fixing the need for tinker tools when making bolts. It shouldn't be asking for them, which is why it is acting odd.

Ok for now bolt tinkering will use a carving knife instead of Tinker tools. Didn't feel like getting that sorted out right now.

Naissura hefts the battle crossbow and puts it on the medium balance scale. She patiently adds small sacks of stones on the other side till the beam becomes exactly level.

Naissura squints at the balance beam needle and says, "The crossbow weighs about two hundred fifty stones," and puts the crossbow on the counter.

You pay Naissura and take your crossbow off the counter.

Heavy battle crossbow made with osage and cove gears seems a little much for weight

I don't see the bolt flights in the Crossing Society.

Also, the techniques are simply a list, not tiered like they are for other disciplines on the chart in the Master's office.

That's it though. Tinker's tools, bolt flights, and the gear presses are only in Fang Cove for now.

The techniques should be fixed. It is intentional that the other Halls lack everything necessary to Tinker. This release was specific to Fang's Cove for the week. I'll get the rest out soon thereafter.

ask paa about tink

Paarupensteen chuckles to himself and says, "Yes, tinkering. We do hope to get this Discipline organized before too much longer. Try back again later and maybe it will be finished!"

Paarupensteen nods and says, "It seems you are ready to learn another tinkering technique."

Paarupensteen nods to himself and says, "Well then, I can teach you the tinkering techniques of Simple Gearworking, Crossbow Basics, Advanced Boltmaking, Mechanism Crafting, Tinkered Lamination, Tinkered Maintenance and Tinkering Specialization. Ask me about learning one by name, and we can get started."

Need to update it so the society masters know for sure tinkering has been released :)

I tried asking Brogir about the various Tinkering techs tonight, but he still responded that he didn't know. And when I trained one and tried to see what I did, I got this:

>craft tinkering
From the tinkering crafting discipline you have been trained in Mechanism Crafting.

>craft tinkering mechanism crafting
You know nothing about that technique.

I think something killed the info on tinkering techs.

Actually he has never known anything about Tinkering techs and it has been bugged and mentioned on the forums a few times.

I think it might have to do with it being just in Fang Cove/premium preview because perhaps the code can't handle one Society Masters knowing things the others don't.
