is there anything more difficult to hum than a masterful concerto, or a confident concerto?

I don't think so. Concerto is listed as the hardest type.

You could try to penalize your charisma somehow if you're beyond getting the "with the slightest hint of difficulty" message.

Masterful concerto is the most difficult PLAY/HUM style. Once you've reached that point the experience rewards will diminish into uselessness. Around 1000 ranks and they start going downhill.

I haven't tested it, but I'm not sure that penalizing charisma would help. My guess is no, only because they were trying to move away from that in other systems. (See: Halberds + Skinning version 1.0)

I don't learn at maximum capacity from masterful concerto anymore either. :-(
