A Reason to Train! 06/05/2008 03:55 PM CDT
I'm crossposting this in case the GMs stopped reading that perception disscussion in the survival folder (I don't blame them).

I have thought of a way to both offer a new way to learn Perception, and to make instrument skills less useless.

What if you could LISTEN MUSIC <character> and begin actively paying attention to their songs they play. The harder the song style, when played skillfully perhaps, the better the teaching. Whether or not a leet concerto will be TOO hard to learn from with 25 ranks of Perception, I'll leave for the GMs.

The downside is that while you're listening to someone, your visual perception to everything else takes a big nerf (like with WATCH). Unlike Teaching, which this idea feels similar to, I think it should be flexible, like if someone stops playing a song (or hasn't started yet), you'll still be listening for the next one until you actively STOP.

This also encourages people to be SOCIAL again! Imagine that!

Aveda begins to play a quiet requiem on her didjeridu.

>listen music aveda
You begin focusing your attention on Aveda's music.

Aveda continues to play a quiet requiem on her didjeridu.
You notice that the song's pace has picked up since the last verse.

>smile
You smile.

>listen music aveda
Aveda is not currently playing a song, but your ears are hers for the punishment.

>ponder going back to circus juggling

I think this is a pretty neat idea. It would be even nicer if music is one of those common tasks that taught a little perception, as well.

I really like this idea too. It's a pretty great idea to broaden perception up.

If Perception delves into the sense of hearing, lord knows musicians have a lot of that--from music playing.

Love this idea, and the additional thought of having instrument playing teach a bit of perception on the side.

This would actually make instruments be worth training. Please, someone make this happen.
