Hey Kodius. Let me start by saying I am continually amazed by your robot-like ability to power through large and complex projects. I am seriously looking forward to trying out lumberjacking. Bravo, and a big thank you.

I just wanted to request some more wood types be added to the system -- if you have the time and deem it worthwhile. I realize that we probably don't need any more varieties to make different quality bows/weapons, but I would like to see more options added for creative value, both for the ability to create different looks for the weapons but also for furniture and upcoming instruments.

I've made a list of woods that I've seen available in shops, mainly instrument shops. None of these are marked rare on the alteration pages. I've noted a few that are particularly important. I realize that some may already exist but are not listed on the lumberjacking page, where I got my information.

Note that I do not expect you to add them all -- though that would be amazing -- but it would be nice to have a few more at least, even if they are clones of other existing woods. For me, having lots of options to choose from when designing is a big part of my enjoyment, as is finding that rare, different material (even if it's not perfect for weapons).

white ironwood -- important to the Kaldar. Their symbol is the mist-shrouded white ironwood tree.
black ironwood
witchclaw -- the only wood (that I know of) that is white in color.
deobar
wyndewood
lunat
ebonwood
modwir
rowan
pearwood
wiirwood
flamewood
blackwood
fruitwood
lacewood
flamethorn
satinwood
boxwood
burlwood
cocobolo
basswood
copperleaf
lemonwood
plumwood
peregan
chestnut
khor'vela -- important to Gor'Togs and Olvi.
redwood
sequoia
zulnatha
tulvora
acacia
olivewood
tamarind
butternut
remeka
eucalyptus
juniper
tamarisk
osage
sana'ati -- important to Elves.
laurel
sycamore
acanth
beech

There are also a few that are more colorful versions of woods we have now:

black oak
white oak
fishtail oak
goldenoak
white pine
island pine
black willow
silverwillow
curly birch
silverbirch
white birch
black walnut
silver maple
red maple
flame maple
red cedar
white ash

Material types often cannot be two words and must be under 15 characters in length. This is one reason why I skipped the ones you listed. Others of those are listed as special and cannot be available from lumberjacking.

Finally, I didn't want to dilute woods so much that you'd never find useful woods. But this is just the first release, and maybe some more can be added as time goes on (as I've done with the other systems).

Thank you for responding Kodius.

Ah! Too bad, I really wanted white ironwood in particular! Are you open to suggestions for getting around this? E.g. "white-ironwood" that fixes itself later, or Artistry bringing out the "white"?

>>Others of those are listed as special and cannot be available from lumberjacking.

Interesting. I checked both the Witch's list of rare materials and elanthipedia's alteration guide. Is there some level of "special" that's different from "must be provided for alterations", or are those lists incomplete? If you have the time to let us know which ones are special, I can put it up on elanthipedia.

>>Finally, I didn't want to dilute woods so much that you'd never find useful woods.

My suggestion is not to introduce lots of low-value woods, but rather to clone existing woods. So for example, peregan might be a clone of ironwood, sequoia might be a clone of redwood, etc. If the ratio of commons to rares remains the same, that should prevent dilution while still allowing us more creative options.

Again, I don't expect you to do any of this unless you're happy with the ROI. I'm only saying that I would appreciate more options a great deal in the long run. I've been looking forward to Artistry and more dye colors but I realized that the different woods all give their own flavors in a way that's hard to duplicate.

Here is a tree we don't hear much about...

Give it a deeper life and meaning!

The Vedda Tree

[Southern Trade Route, Endrus Forest]
The road passes through a defile of vedda trees here, their white inner pith exposed, stripped of all bark. In times of famine or scarcity, the nomads of this forest have been known to eat the bark in order to survive. Unfortunately, in addition to meager nutrition, it contains a powerful hallucinogen which tends to drive tribesmen into a frenzy directed primarily at interlopers into their forest domain.
Obvious paths: northeast, southwest.
