Designs. Kind of like an Architect.

They don't necessarly build things BUT they draw up the design for it and the folks that DO build the things in question they have to purchase the "pansl" "designs" from them, study and follow said "plans/designs" and only once they have grasped them build the said thing using their skill at Carving, Tailoring, smithing,... etc.

More skilled at Artistry more complex designs. Also can be incorporated to require more skills in conbination with Artistry to draw the higer more compex designs. For example you wish to draw up a plans for making a exceptionaly good sword you'd have to have X amount of ranks in said blade skill combined with X amount of ranks of Artistry with some basic amount of ranks in Smithing to give you knowledge of metals. Drawing up a design for say a wedding gown so a skilled tailor can make the said gown you'd have to have basic understanding of Taloring to go along with your many ranks of Artistry. This of course would give folk an opportunity to diverify and specialise down the road...(funny thing most will probbly opt for armor or weapon specs, he he he).

Simple designs to start the skill off for things such as Tailoring designs for basic fluf clothing items, etc.

Just a notion.

now there's an idea i haven't heard before, i add to it we should be able to make primers or patterns as well (sewing and origami)

I would think plans/designs/patterns would be engineering/scholarship? I could be wrong.

I can see Scholarship skill being required as a lore to say study or design these things.... However we are talking about Drawing and Engineering typicaly is associated with building things. As I said was thinking about things along the lines of what an Architect does. All they do is draw up "plans" "designs" for things they come up with them but do not actually make anything.

<<All they do is draw up "plans" "designs" for things they come up with them but do not actually make anything.>>

This is the whole conceptualization vs application argument.

Sure you can make stuff base knowledge, but to truely excel at a craft you need to be well versed in al lthe theory and applications, in other words the scholarship surrounding the craft.

I see scholarship as not only knowing what shape to make something but it can mean knowing what wood types work best, uder what conditions would the wood be more suited for power or for flexability.

In real life, engineers are primarily designers, not builders (not counting undergrads, who, of course, do both). The technicians and other relatively more blue-collar workers normally build the factories/products to the engineers' specifications.

Designs really ought to be engineering. Maybe a hybrid artistry/engineering deal for certain artistic things (architecture, embellished weapons, etc.). For purely functional things, artistry really ought not to play much of a part.

A) I threw out idea on using the Artistry skill for creting "Patterns" "Plans" and "Designs" in written form. THAT was to be the question and the idea NOT a Engineers Vs Architect debate. Folk seem to take what they want out of what someone sayes and make their own agrument out of it.

B) "In real life...." Umm I play DR BECAUSE it is NOT RL if I wanted RL I can just live it and do daily so that line ALWYAS makes me laugh when used in refrence to anything DR.

It always makes me laugh when people think DR is "NOT RL".

Fantasy is just picking and choosing which parts of real life you like and which parts you don't. Whenever people want something, they say, "It makes sense." Whenever they don't, they say, "This isn't real life."

You're right. It IS funny, how transparent people are.
