Can a tunic become a gamantang 06/25/2015 05:02 PM CDT
Wondering because I would like to have one of those tunics that hides worn things turned into a gamantang.
They seem like they would be similar enough that there should be no problem.

[21:24] SEND[Naohhi] We'll look into it, but for now, you're making giant errors pop up all over the place on this side. :p

A tunic could become a tabard or perhaps a robe, but generally they won't give racial nouns to items that don't already have them.

What I did for my S'Kra was turn the hiding runic into a robe and then make a separate gamantang.
*a billowing Musparan silk robe embroidered with arabesque serpents
*a rich sanguine gamantang with a golden arabesque overlay

See I already have a robe that does the hiding, was trying to make less weight and item count.

Would be nice if they just made a hider that was a gamantang and save time.

I could swear that there were some sold in a shop somewhere, be it year-round or fest-only. If you can convince any GM to pull Hhtuassa out at the next Hollow Eve, she made custom gamantangs. Other than that, I feel like you used to be able to spend LTB points to make an item hide gear...? Am I remembering that right at all?

I'm about as close to 100% positive as I can be that no, item hiding gamantangs have not been released in any shop. There are regular gamantangs in a 24/7 shop in Muspar'i, however:

And in several fest shops, such as:

This is not really how alterers work. That does not mean that there might not be another alterer or live merchant who makes gamantangs, but generally, if a GM is no longer on staff, on hiatus, or otherwise not available, their GMNPC alterers are not going to be at any event.

No, you have never been able to spend LTB points to add any of the item hider scripts to your gear. However, there are several alterers who will combine item hiders, and these alterers also will typically transfer the hiding mechanics to an item of choice. This process is generally very expensive, and depending on several factors including what your end item is, can result in the final hider item being magical and having charges.

I think your best bet is either:

1) Wear a hiding robe with a gamantang.

2) Save up for a set of magical hiders. I combined all of mine into a pin that hides itself, so I can always wear it and swap any other clothes at will. However this option is very expensive, as armor hiders are upwards of 1000 plat and weapon hiders even more rare and expensive.

This may generally be true but I have found that sometimes they are willing to do the improbable. Usually I advise asking politely and having a backup idea ready. I personally have never seen it happen for a racially-named item though.

>>Primeq: I think your best bet is either:

For best results, you want a robe-style hider and a magical hider. The robe-style hiders conceal some things that the magical hiders don't and vice versa. (You can then just use the SHOW command to make sure that your favorite items are always visible.)

It's worth noting that the alteration rules are becoming more standardized and more uniformly enforced, so things that we may have gotten away with in the past might not fly today. I agree, however, that it doesn't hurt to ask and come prepared with a backup plan.
