[A Rickety Covered Bridge] spring/summer/fall/winter - day & night
Not much stands out about this old bridge, though you are sure if it could speak it would tell you of many of loves first kisses, young couples heading off with all their belongings heaped on wagons and so much more. But alas, it is but wood and nails, and as wood and nails it can only show the story of age and neglect. It is said that if you stand on the bridge at dusk or dawn, you can still hear the footsteps and carts of those coming and going.
Obvious paths: South.

[A Small Grove of Apple Trees] spring - day
Row upon row of apple trees line the sides of the well worn road here. They stand like solders waiting for battle, buds protruding from every joint, anxiously laying in wait of the last hard frost to be over. A thick leaf litter covers the ground like a heavy blanket and helps keep the trees roots protected. Red-winged blackbirds woo you with a sweet warbling melody in hopes that you?ll throw out some bread or oat scrapes for them. To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.
Obvious paths: South, South West.

To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.

[A Small Grove of Apple Trees] summer - day
Row upon row of apple trees line the sides of the well worn road here. Their plush green leaves blow softly in the breeze. The heady scent of little white and pink apple flowers makes your head feel light. A heavy blanket of leaf litter gives way to new life and young green plants push their heads up and out of the protective covering. Songbirds have been busy building nests in the upper branches of these intoxicatingly sweet fruit trees and you hear some of their chicks chirping from the treetops. To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.
Obvious paths: South, South West.

A heavy blanket of leaf litter gives way to new life and young green plants push their heads up and out of the protective covering. Raccoons, attracted by the thought of an easy meal in the trees, have settled into the area. A pair of ring-tailed baby raccoons wrestle and tumble just off the side of the road. To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.
Obvious paths: South, South West.

[A Small Grove of Apple Trees] fall - day
Row upon row of apple trees line the sides of the well worn road here. Boughs full of ripe red, yellow and green apples seem to creak in the wind, waiting to be picked. A bright red apple catches you eye, it wouldn?t hurt to pick and eat it, but since you are unsure if that will get you killed, you opt not to touch the enticing fruit. The ground around the trees is green and grassy, a few small wormy apples lay here and there as they have fallen out of the trees. Songbirds nests in the upper branches of the trees are almost all empty now, their young all grown and off finding their own way in the world. To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.

Row upon row of apple trees line the sides of the well worn road here. Boughs full of ripe apples seem to creak in the wind, waiting to be picked. A bright yellow apple hanging low near the road catches you eye, it wouldn?t hurt to pick and eat it, but since you are unsure if that will get you killed, you opt not to touch the enticing fruit. The ground around the trees is grassy, a few small wormy apples lay here and there as they have fallen out of the trees. Raccoons don?t seem to mind eating the wormy apples on the ground, and you see a young pair making their way up and down the rows of trees, looking for the best of the fallen fruits. To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.
Obvious paths: South, South West.

[A Small Grove of Apple Trees] winter - day
Row upon row of apple trees line the sides of the well worn road here. A light snow covers most of the thick limbs of the trees and ground here. Dotted in the snow are little frozen apples that fell from the trees after the first hard frost. The grove is nearly empty of life, only a few small fresh animal tracks are in the snow. To the Southeast you see some steep bluffs and to the North is a rickety bridge.

[A Stand of Tall Pine Trees] spring - day
The air is heavy here and it is apparent as you survey the area that many lives have been lost at this very spot. Evident by the ancient blood and scorch marks on the remains of what appears to be a massive redivawzis. Yet further proof that this was once a holy place are the tender lavender plants dotted around the edges of the ruins and what appears to be a large ring of budding pine trees enclosing this area. Tiny white and pale blue butterflies flit happily around, seeming to chase each other in a never ending game of tag.
You also see an arch in the brush and some tall bullrushes.
Obvious paths: North, South.

Note The redivawzis is an altar. Heiu and or Zabari would have to let the redivawzis act as a fully functional altar; preferably even give Mrod, Enelne, and Coshivi favors if you put a special offering (which would depend on which god you want the favor from) on the redivawzis and offer it to the gods.

[Devesis Kafs Vawta] spring - day
Clumps of vela'tohr plants and rose bushes with young buds are scattered all around this eerily squared meadow that is edged by tall rosemary bushes with tiny, delicate violet flowers. A feeling of inner peace comes over you as a warming breeze gently blows on your face. For some reason it seems odd that butterflies abound here, even birds and fluffy baby animals of every kind scurry all around, everywhere you look is new life.

>GO BULLRUSHES

[Sird Luzurt Ezer] spring - day
Based on the close proximity to the redivawzis, you suspect that the pond may be used in rituals as well as for swimming and bathing. Tall bullrushes hide big boulders that have fallen off the bluffs above this fairly deep pond. The water is surprisingly warm, and the further in you wade, you realize that the pond is fed by a deep spring. As you observe the area you see lustrous shades of pale green and yellow reflecting brightly on the still clear blue waters here.

[Old School] spring - day
As you reach the highest point in this area, you realize that you are standing in what was once the front of an old school. A thick rope hangs down right in front of your face, almost begging to be pulled. Two huge arched doors leading into the schoolhouse are directly behind the rope. Turning around, you can see out over the trees for what seems like forever. To the North are some steep bluffs and to the South is a rolling hill.

>PULL ROPE
You tug on the rope and determine the rope is secure and the bell is not going to come crashing down on you. Briefly you ponder jumping up on the rope and ringing the bell.

>JUMP ROPE Note When someone rings the bell the entire area (all 12 rooms) hears it.
You leap into the air and grab the rope as high as you can reach. The bell rings rhythmically as the rope pulls you higher and higher into the air until finally it slows down and comes to a stop. You slide down the rope, slightly dismayed that you have announced your position to everyone in the area.

>LOOK BELL
The large bronze bell has an inlay of a young female Garidznawk on the side. There appears to be something written on the bell.

>READ BELL
The large bronze bell reads:
?I am a voice crying in the wilderness.?

>GO ARCHED DOORS

[Classroom] day time - doors are locked at night note it hasn?t changed in over a century, nor does it change with the seasons.
This modest one room classroom doesn?t appear to have changed in over more than a century. At the far end of the room is an immense redwood desk. To the left of the desk is a grand harp with a little stool behind it, and on the right of the desk is an easel with a big black chalkboard on it. Behind the teachers desk there is a huge tapestry hung on the wall. As you scan the room slowly, you notice there are benches with small chalkboards and books stacked neatly under them. The walls are dusty and the stained glass windows make it hard to tell just how dirty they are.
You also see a narrow cupboard and some tall arched doors.
Obvious paths: None.

>LOOK CUPBOARD
The door to the cupboard is barely ajar.

>OPEN CUPBOARD
A horrifying sight awaits you as you open the narrow cupboard. The last teacher and two of her young students are crammed in the cupboard, their bones embracing each other in fear. You notice the smaller of the children is still holding a vial of holy water and the other child and teacher are clutching bottles of naptha in their bony hands.

>LOOK TAPESTRY
You see a beautiful tapestry, sewn on a loom with heavy wool threads. The predominate part of the tapestry has something written on it.

>READ TAPESTRY ~or~ if you have enough scholarship you can >INVOKE TAPESTRY Note The tapestry can only be read once an Elanthian day and teaches scholarship indefinitely as long as you invoke it. Roundtime: 60 seconds.
The Story of Sird Luzurt Ezer.
Many, many years ago, when this place was first being settled there were two young people that only had eyes for each other. They were soon betrothed and almost immediately the young man was called to battle. Time passed slowly and no word came of his whereabouts. Under heavy pressure from her family, the young bride was forced to take another to be her husband. On their wedding night a royal courior arrived to give her word of what had happened, her true love had been killed in battle and his corpse burned. Unable to think of anything but him, she ran to the top of the bluffs and threw herself upon the big jagged rocks in the pond below.

>LOOK HARP
Standing as tall as a full grown Rakash man and crafted to look like a butterfly's wing, this large gold and silver gilt instrument is truely magnificent. You can tell by the intricately carved column that someone took great pride in hand crafting it.

>PLAY HARP
Perhaps you should sit on the stool to play?

>SIT ON STOOL
You settle yourself on a soft velvet stool, legs astride the harp and leaning it against your right shoulder, you position your hands in anticipation of hearing yourself pluck the bronze wires.

>PLAY HARP Note you must have over 100 ranks in strings OR 250 combined total musical ranks (even if you have 0 ranks in strings) to pluck out a simple chord
You contimplate plucking out a few chords on the grand harp and start to do so before realizing the harp needs a tune-up.

>TUNE HARP Note even if you aren't a Bard you can tune the harp, but you have to have at least 250 combined musical ranks; if you don't you get the following message:
You carefully appraise the grand harp and decide that it'd be best for someone with many years experience to even consider tuning it.

[Parasts Taka] spring/summer/fall/winter - day & night
Along the circular path perinenial herbs of every kind hardy to this area grow wild all year long. In the center of the circle is a deep oven with a cauldron of boiling water over it. Overhead a sturdy iron rack has hooks full of pots and pans for cooking. Set back from the circular path is a pine hut. To the Northeast is a well trodden path leading up a rolling hill.
You also see a stately mudbrick nars, a limestone block ruiza, a red brick raja, a pine woodshake audiwah, a granite nars, a whitewashed ruiza, and a log raja.
Obvious paths: North, South, Southwest.

>GO PINE HUT
[Pine Hut]
The inside of this pine hut is a thatched roof, one long round wall, and a matted dirt floor. A simple cot takes up the majority of the interior of the hut. It is obvious that the big bolt on the door is mean to keep it locked when a newlywed couple occupies the hut. Something is written on the door.
Obvious paths: None.

>READ DOOR
Any items you intend to keep, do not leave laying on the floor or cot. Maids tend to have light fingers and no one will be held responsible for lost articles.

[Narrow Yard] spring - day
A narrow yard awaits your playful feet. Soft beds of clover and morning glories stretch up to tickle your toes. Along the perimeter of the yard is a tall, sturdy picket fence with a fresh layer of white paint on it. You can imagine mothers letting their littlest ones play here alone, just within eye and earshot of the oven and homes.
Obvious paths: North.

[Narrow Yard] spring - night

Obvious paths: North.

[Narrow Yard] summer - day
A narrow yard awaits your playful feet. Soft beds of clover and ferns seem to wait for little ones to come and make necklaces out of their big blooms with long stems. From dawn to dusk the sun's rays shine on everything in this narrow yard. Along the perimeter of the yard is a tall, sturdy picket fence.
Obvious paths: North.

Obvious paths: North.

[Narrow Yard] fall - night
A narrow yard awaits your aching feet. Soft beds of clover are partially covered by small mounds of leaves from neighboring trees. Along the perimeter of the yard is a tall, sturdy picket fence.
Obvious paths: North.

[Narrow Yard] winter - day
A narrow yard awaits artistic hands and feet to sculpt the drifts of snow into family members and make footprint mazes of follow-the-leader. Along the perimeter of the yard is a tall, sturdy picket fence.
Obvious paths: North.

[By the Well] spring - day
You walk along the rocky path and come to a well made of limestone blocks with a wood-shake roof. A rope and pulley system allow you to get water from the well. To the South just a bit is a short bench. The bench faces the stockades and is for those who've come to talk to and feed their stockaded friends or family members. [By the Well] spring - night
You walk along the rocky path and come to a well made of limestone blocks with a wood-shake roof. A rope and pulley system allow you to get water from the well. To the South just a bit is a short bench that faces the stockades. Glancing at the stockades, you decide a night spent standing with your head stooped is not something you want to try. [By the Well] summer - day
You walk along the rocky path and come to a well made of limestone blocks with a wood-shake roof. The heat from the day causes a thin mist to be seen between the well and it's roof, the extra moisture gives th moss to grow on the shingles. [Vegetable Garden] spring - day
This garden is divided into four main sections, two in the front and two in the back with a wide path down the middle. At the end of the path is a small barn that holds all the equipment, seeds and fertilizer used in the garden. The first section to your right has tender green asparagus ready to picked, ripe golden winter squash, and juicy red turnips peaking out of the ground. The first section to your left has recently been plowed and seeds sewn in five neat rows with little tags at the end of each row to identify the plants. The far section on your right has three rows in use at any one time, always rotating between the six rows to have a constant supply of carrots, onions and potatoes ready to be pulled and eaten. The far section on your right has also been recently plowed and seeded with five neat rows, each with a little stake at the end to identify the plants.

Really great! Just a few things..Please don't hate me by the end of this.

Apple Grove/Fall

"bright red apple catches you eye, it wouldn?t hurt to pick and eat it, but since you are unsure if that will get you killed, you opt not to touch the enticing fruit."

The reason I think this shouldn't be there is because it assumes that is the character's reaction. There are characters out there who would do it JUST to see if some crazy man with a pitchfork would run after them. What if that character is so hungry that that overrides their sense of "that apple isn't mine."

Pine Trees/summer

"You are tempted to try and touch their gossamer wings, but as you reach out, they fly away."

Same thing.. Some folks would want to squish the butterflies, and others would be so concerned with other things that they would pay them no mind at all. You can't assume who would be tempted.

Devesis Kafs Vawta/spring-night

"A feeling of dread comes over you as you realize just where it is that you are, as you turn to leave a vision of a young broken hearted woman suddenly takes hold of your consciousness and her scream fills your mind, you dazedly blink and the vision is gone."

An assumed feeling of dread. The vision is fine itself, you just can't put the feelings within the person yourself.

Devesis Kafs Vawta/summer & fall & winter

"A feeling of inner peace"

Assumed inner peace. Could say something like..

summer
The subtle yet heady scent of the mingled plantlife overtakes your senses as a shady breeze gently cools your skin.

fall..well..I have no idea.

Old School, summer

"You wipe your brow and breathe deeply a few times before you notice a thick rope hangs down right in front of your face, almost begging to be pulled."

Not every day in summer is hot, sometimes it rains all day. And some folks climb cliffs like this all the time, so it wouldn't take so much out of them.

Old School, winter

"As you breathe in the frigid night air, you quiver under your clothes."

They could be naked.. :)

As you breathe in the frigid night air, your lungs catch from the sharp cold. Maybe? Hrm?

<<A horrifying sight awaits you as you open the narrow cupboard. The last teacher and two of her young students are crammed in the cupboard, their bones embracing each other in fear. You notice the smaller of the children is still holding a vial of holy water and the other child and teacher are clutching bottles of naptha in their bony hands.

Nothing wrong, I just had to say...that ROCKS! My character would run SCREAMING from that place. Well, then you figure..the emotions left there that would hit an Empath would be pretty harsh in and of themselves.

"On their wedding night a royal courior arrived to give her word of what had happened, her true love had been killed in battle and his corpse burned."

courier ::hums::

The vegetable garden is excellent, you really know what should be growing when.

I hope you don't take my critiques personally or anything. I just know that while the older room descriptions sometimes assume emotion of the character, more and more they've tried to get away from that. Better than YOU should change it..and hopefully have most of YOUR design placed in the game rather than having a lot of it changed on you if they do use it.

I really do like the style.

I do want to ask you, however....the teacher and children hiding ..apparently from the undead, how did they die? .

I'm just kind of wondering if you had a specific backstory. I'd love to hear it.

Awesome job.

1) While it is tempting to take criticism personally, I know better, I have been writing for years.

2) I based my descriptions on the existing room descriptions I like the best, and most of those have emotions built into them, intentional or not.

3) The only thing I would change are the typo(s), courier, a few accidental line dups from season to season, and there's:
>[By the Well] summer - day
>... The heat from the day causes a thin mist to be seen between the well and it's roof, the extra moisture gives th moss to grow on the shingles.
Apparently I got distracted and need to figure out what I was thinking so I can rewrite it.

IF, and that's a big if, a GM/SGM/etc. did decide to use it IG, it would get changed, hands down, if I change it or not... it's the whole one man's teasure is another man's trash theory, the GM(s)/SGM(s) that would be adding the area to the game would go over it with a fine tooth comb until it sounded how they want it to sound.

>I really do like the style.

Thank you. Alot of the assumed feelings were based on existing rooms IG.

>I do want to ask you, however....the teacher and children hiding ..apparently from the undead, how did they die? .

You would die if you hid in a cupboard for years, waiting for the Lyras controlled risen corpses of your friends and family to leave, too. I forget exactly where I heard this (seems like it could have been a "moot") but it took ~30 years to travel to the East from the West.

Well, yes..but I didn't know which border you were assuming this was on.

And because it is the Teacher in the cupboard..it seems like this was a schoolhouse USED by Rakash.

I guess I just feel that..if Lyras had gotten that far into Forfedhdar..we would have heard about it. There is trade between Forfedhdar and other places,..if that was cut off..

And if this teacher and their students were already IN Forfedhdar..and had settled down in a schoolhouse..then why didn't they go just slightly farther west to hang out with the Tog's and Dwarves. If there were IN Forfedhar, and had been living so close in its borders, then they would KNOW about Hibarnhvidar having a huge city underground, which is probably a lot safer than waiting to die in a cupboard.

My question is this, Why would Rakash be near a Dwarven town? I could see a Dwarven settlement, but not a Rakash one. But that's just me.

>My question is this, Why would Rakash be near a Dwarven town?

Rakash came from the West, Ivukav (or was it Rhue?) said that when he came to Crossing from our homelands, he passed by Meraud's tower; which is where all the books written on the Rakash are stored. I would wager that the migration followed the valleys and flatlands around the mountains as much as possible on the way to the East. In my idea, the settlement is near the river, west of Hibarnhvidar.

I also wanted to mention that I didn't post EVERYTHING... I was afraid I would go over the per post limit if I did, I only posted about 14 printed pages of it.

Good job! I like it very much.

One thing I would like more is less of a feeling of negligence and more of a feeling of re-building. I personally would rather see more areas in states of repair than disarry.

Please note I didn't post all of it, and I wrote it all in one sitting; it could always be rebuilt (similar to how the temple has had it's additions, with room messaging, etc.) assuming it will ever see the light of day - not very likely.
