No. He has been described all his life as a "free spirit. But that's hardly relevant. We are all adults playing a text game for large portions of the day. I'd say we are all a little disfuntional.
Not to mention that most people don't stay rational when they feel attacked. He can get emotional (as can I, family trait) in situations like this.
Everyone will see things their way, and no one is wrong where their feelings are concerned. That makes communication rather difficult.
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

The only people that are dysfunctional are the people using DR as a form of wish fulfillment or projected fantasy instead of its intended use as a medium for roleplay and cooperative storytelling.
Granted, this is most DR players, but as JMF points out there is probably a lesson here neither of you are apparently getting.

Yep, you know, the second half of this is great stuff, despite paraphrasing some of my post. But you start it by telling the person they are wrong. How do you expect someone to listen after that?

There are certain people that, no matter what you post, or what the conversation pertains to that will simply post a mean spirited reply for nothing more than their own entertainment.
Responding with your own sarcasim does nothing more than let them continue playing their game with you as a participant. Keep note of the people that respond in this fashion, and simply do not reply to their posts. You're better off that way.

Okay why is the use of any other item only warranted when someone attacks you. If you attack first, you face a policy violation. Gwethsmashers can be used at any time though and the user is exempt from policy. Why is there a difference between gwethsmashers and other methods of affecting/abusing players?

The bottom line is this: Your brother got smashed. Repeatedly. He has a few options available.
1. Man up and do something about getting smashed. If I remember correctly from the times that I've been smashed, you get messaging that reveals who your smasher is. Taking action against his smasher will probably get him killed. Repeatedly.
2. He can change the behavior/gwething that have caused him to get smashed, up to and including removal of gweths.
3. He can decide to continue with his pattern of behavior/gwething, but accept the fact that he's going to get smashed. Whining, complaining, or otherwise displaying bitterness about getting smashed can often times result in another smashing by someone else, so truly accepting the smashing in the first place will probably result in fewer smashes overall.
4. He can hire someone to kill the smasher. Sometimes this isn't such a great option. If the smasher finds out you've hired someone to get revenge, most likely you will not only have paid a lot of plats to someone, but you will probably die. Repeatedly.
5. Quit.
As other posters have mentioned, this IS a game. Things happen. Not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone will appreciate the awesomeness of your RP. Some people will kill you for what appears to be no reason. There is an educational process that goes on within the player population about what is or is not acceptable behavior. Your brother is the recipient of one aspect of this educational process.
Keeping things in the proper perspective is important. Gwethsmashing is and will continue to be a part of the game. Gweths are relatively easy to get, and cheap to buy. The only people who might say this is not the case are those that live out on some of the remote islands where traders and gweth making moonies might not frequent.
As for yourself, when you come to the forums with an issue that isn't related to your character, but on behalf of someone else, a lot of people are going to perceive this as juvenile. Very similar to 6th grader Johnny asking one of his friends to ask one of Susie's friends if Susie likes Johnny. You can take some of the words that have been written in response to your posts, and either learn from them, laugh at them, or become upset by them. Getting upset at the responses you get is somewhat silly.
Some people have offered some words of wisdom, some lessons learned, while others have openly ridiculed you and/or your brother. Keep things in perspective. It's a game. Not everyone is going to get along. The definition of insanity is... doing the same thing, the same way, over and over again, but expecting a different result. If your brother continues his pattern of behavior with no changes, the same result will occur. That's virtually guaranteed.

Well that's easy, because gweths are a replaceable item. Just like stealing coin or gems isn't against policy. Those actions just grant consent to the victim. If all actions against another player were against policy then what kind of game would it be? Oh yeah, a daily episode of carebears.

I completely agree Armifier, however the quotes you included in your post were snarky responses to snarky responses and not really related. I've stopped arguing against smashers. You've made me see your (the GM's) side and I can accept the reasoning. I'm just trying to see the smashers' side of things in this case.

In my experience, in most cases the smashing resulted from the smashee annoying somebody somehow who either then smashed the smashee or enlisted a friend to smash the smashee. It ain't rocket surgery.
Tell your brother not to worry about it. It happens in fantasy textrealms somewhat often and it's not something to dwell on.
On an RP note, there are a few options open to your brother (other than the standard policy rules). I know certain members of the Goose family will retaliate on your behalf if you ask them nicely and pay them. Somewhat similarly, Rmel (me) will offer his professional spokesperson services and confront the smasher on your behalf if you ask him nicely and pay him an agreed upon amount.
In short, the worst thing your brother can do is dwell on the smashing or make a big deal about it - it's just part of the game.

I agree, but I've learned not to assume. I listen to all sides, even when it's plainly obvious.
>I know certain members of the Goose family will retaliate on your behalf if you ask them nicely and pay them.
This is ironic since the main smasher is/was Eladrin, a Goose. Of course, I'm sure of the price is right, he may even kill himself...

It's good to know this service exists (to avoid bodily harm, of course.) I'll keep you in mind if ever the service is needed by me or someone I know. Also, I assume that by "confront" you mean speaking to the smasher, not smiting the smasher.

Now's who's taking this too seriously? I was joking around. I was hoping I wouldn't have to spell it out after suggesting that Eladrin might kill himself for the right price.
Consider it LET GO.
But accept the fact that I will chime in on these Forums just like you do in nearly every thread I've ever read. It won't always be about smashers. No, really.

My biggest problem is that people instantly start to QQ when they get smashed, Why not try to RP it out? Shoot this is a roll playing game after all. I have only had a couple of people actually confront me (a few were cause a GM told them to give it a try after they reported) I don't bite and I guarantee you you will gain something out of it! HINT HINT
On to why you got smashed. Think about what you said. Again if you can't figure it out, ask me, and I will happily tell you. Don't always instantly assume that just because said person is bigger then you its a lost cause. Push comes to shove hire someone to do your dirty work but at least give talking to the person who smashed you a try.
Its a game!

Hay,
Not the Conflicts folder. Further bickering will be removed.

I too have returned to find there was a thing called a gwethsmasher. Personally it takes away from my enjoyment of playing the game. I understand the gm reasoning for them but I see them being used for bullying. I don't talk often on the gweths. I listen for important news and to help when and where I can. If I find someone annoying I add their name to my ignor list. What I might find annoying someeone else might enjoy. I enjoy trying to figure out what Rmel is saying. Someone gwething from a soap box ends up on my ignor list.

It's only hilarious because even his thoughts seem to have a lisp.

It's almost as if people don't realize that 'getting on someone's bad side' and dealing with the consequences are part of RP.

Numerous physicians have stated that as a result of Jhime's vicious sock to Rmel's snout, Rmel suffers from a situation that is symptomatic of a psychosomatic condition, and as such he lisps his sibilant sounds in his thoughts as well as in his face-to-face speech.
Or he could be faking. It's hard to say for sure.

Personally I think he just enjoys driving some folks completely insane. That way he can sit back and laugh when everyone on the gweth threatens the person that insults him.

Hobbes would be wrong. The gay penguins prove that absurdity affects many other species.
