Built-in hp, mana, and spirit variables? 08/23/2006 07:07 PM CDT
I'm using the latest version of zMud, and under GSL Emulation, there are variables that supposedly contain these values.

As far as I can tell, they have never been created in my settings file and don't update. I can't use them with any of my scripts.

Am I doing something wrong? What do I have to do to get these variables to update?

Nope, the GSL codes that govern those things don't exist in DR. Gemstone is actually the older game, which is why it's called GSL instead of DRL, MOL, AoHL, and so on. Quite a few of these codes were created specifically for Gemstone, actually.

You have to login as stormfront which is an option in ZMud and then yes, apart from states like webbed/bleeding/etc... it will have percentile mana, health, HP, etc...

Those don't work with GSL, however, which was the question asked. Stormfront mode doesn't use any GSL at all.

Hmm...

How do I script in SF mode? What changes?

And how do I supress all the XML while I'm playing? <G>

Thanks!

To change to stormfront mode, you simply need to go to GSL Preferences. Where it says something about type or mode or something (it will be a dropdown list of ZMud, Wizard, or Browser_fe), just type in "stormfront". This particular preference is only active for Character connection, so you need to save/apply the preference changes, close down the character window associated with those preferences, and then reopen that character.

Basically, what stormfront does is turn mud text into a rough semblence of the amount of scroll that GMs see. That is, for ever line of plain text you see, another 4 lines of XML tag information is given to you. Trying to play in raw Stormfront mode is pretty much impossible because of this, and the fun thing is that most of the XML stuff will be completely useless to you.
