So I know there is only going to be like one person that can answer this.
I know there was to be a 3D MMO version of dragon realms to be released and that it was sold to the makers of knights of the old republic?
Any way what I am wondering is if maybe somehow.. someway.. we could get the sound files from the game?
Just think it would be something nice to add to my gaming experience as I am sure most people would agree.

They sold a game engine, not a game. Basically the structure/coding to create the game is what SIMU sold them. AFAIK this did not include any sounds. Bioware created their own.
You've reached the uninformative help match I haven't written yet.

Yes I know that they made their own.I assumed from some of the trailers that had been up that so did SIMU. That is what I am after is what Simu had made.

The only pre-loaded sound I've ever heard was one that would trigger when logging into Alliance of Heroes. It was cute, got me to set up a midi for one of my DR character's log-ins as a kind of theme song for a while.

GemStone and AOH had intro music, but other that that we've never released an official music/sound pack. A couple players put together a very comprehensive pack on their own several years ago, but I'm not sure if it's still available.

The Grimoire of Echoes, yeah. They had a ton. I still use some of them. Unfortunately the site is long gone.

Since you run Genie, any chance you could share your Sound files?
E-mail, or you have a website.

On the Genie 3 Forums, click on the downloads tab near the top and click on the Sounds link on the left-hand side. Everything that begins with Grimoire_. Each one is complete with a series of .WAV files and a .TXT file which contains all of the necessary Genie highlight configurations to allow the sound files to work.

Do you have to have Genie to use the sound files? I used to have all the grimoire of echos sound files set up using the wizard, and I think SF. But then I slept for 5+ years, and switched computers. During this I lost all the sound files on the grimoire of echos.

No, but you'll need to configure the highlight strings for whatever FE you are using.

I'm one of the two players that used to host the Grimoire of Echoes. For those that didn't visit the website, it had sounds for for different levels of hits in combat, 8-10 sounds for each of over 40 creatures in DR, guild-based sounds, sounds for weather, eating and drinking, alchemy, forging and some other general sounds as well.
Our free hosting site decided that hosting over 70MB of sounds files should no longer be free and we didn't feel there was enough interest in it to continue the site. I do have all the sound files available online and I'm glad to share how to access them if you e-mail me. I'll be sure to include the text strings that go along with the sounds and I believe we even put a few new misc sound files in the sets when we did the upload.

These will also work for StormFront, but your StormFront highlights must point to them.

It has been several years since I looked for a host for the website. I was able to find one yesterday and I uploaded the old site to it.
Please don't laugh, we made that website about 12 years ago and it wasn't so dated back then. I think all of it should work, but if you find any links that don't, please let me know. Before anyone asks, it is very unlikely that we'll make any new sets of sounds. Life is much busier now than it was back then Even though we gathered a database of about 5000 sounds, it doesn't look like either of us will have enough free time in the near future to work on them again. I should state that while the sounds can be used for DR, the site is not an official Dragonrealms site.

We hope you enjoy the sounds!

This should be Elanthipedia'd somewhere, but I'm not sure the best place to do it.

No, you don't need to store locally. The sound file itself is kept locally, though, so when you assign the sound to a highlight string, it will always look at that location even if it does not exist on another computer. If you have multiple computers (desktop/laptop, etc.) that you play on you can solve that by just making sure the path for your sound files are in the same location, regardless of where StormFront itself is installed. c:\DragonRealms\Sounds, for instance. If the system can't find a sound at the destination listed on the highlight, you get the default system beep.

Thanks for all the help. My only problem that with Windows Vista I no longer have DragonRealms folder. I can make one but under program files would I use that or the program files (x86)? Or would you do this another way? I do understand that the sound files will be on my computer.
Sorry, but the instructions are for using the Wizard and I am using Stormfront, plus I'm a bit old and not working in the programing field I'm a bit fuzzy as to what to do after I get the files unzipped. Talks about .his files which I sure are not used with Stormfront.
Thanks again for everyone's help

On my desktop (Win7) I recently moved my sounds to a single new folder (c:\Dragonrealms\Sounds) so that I could set it up on a laptop as well running WinXP. Doing things in the Program Files folders with Windows 7 requires you to grant administrator access every time you want to move the files, et cetera, so making a new folder for extra stuff like that was simpler.

Right, the .his files were one of the several settings files (the highlights list) created for each character using Wizard. The files for the Grimoire had you copy those strings into the .his file for each character who wanted to use them to quickly set up the string and assign the sound quickly from the back end. If you like you could still follow those instructions... fire up the Wizard, do the edit to the .his file for your character, and then use the "Thundermage" utility from play.net to convert the Wizard info to Stormfront info. Otherwise I think you need to add the strings and sounds manually into each character.
