Tuesday Tidings - 208 - Collecting 02/13/2024 06:37 PM CST
Happy Tuesday! We did a thing!

Timing with player suggestions is funny sometimes! We (staff) were talking about something like this during HE, and a few weeks later a similar #suggestion showed up, but for different reasons.

There's now a COLLECT {item} PRACTICE option. It works similarly to standard collect, but a few things to know:
* It doesn't generate any items. This also means it bypasses the "area is too cluttered" check -- if you aren't contributing to the mess, you don't need to be bothered by it.
* There's a new exp formula, in addition to the old one. Previously, the only thing that mattered for exp was the # of items found -- a pile of 20 rocks gave the same exp as a pile of 20 clover. The new formula takes the item's base difficulty into account. Both formulas happen, and you get the better of the two exp calcs.
* There's a new RT formula, in addition to the old one. For the new one, your skill can reduce the RT but the # of items found (modified) adds time back. For both, the min cap was adjusted from 15 seconds down to 6, and whichever formula gives the better (lower) RT is used.
* COLLECT HELP got a little facelift!
* Behind the scenes, general collecting (not PRACTICE) got some tweaks in how it generates items -- each pile is really 3 items: the thing you're looking for, a mask for the pile mechanics named the same as the thing you found, and a "pile" item (so things like KICK PILE rather than KICK ROOTS work). 2 of these items now get recycled which should be an invisible process for you guys, but if you collect a pile of jadice flowers that are acting like dioica sap, definitely let us know!

These updates are live everywhere now. Big thanks to Javac for help in reviewing the exp formula and to Paklin for the QCs!
