I'm curious if anyone has a rough estimation as to what level of combats is a safe range to attempt these guys. I'm in ratha celps right now, and they're moving things fine, but as a thief I would prefer something that has boxes too...

If shield/parry are around 420 mo is at 475 and evasion is at 550, am I still really far off from making a leap to them? I obviously can keep things moving for some time to come with celps, but likei said I want some boxes, and am eager to get back to the mainland.

Also, is there a baseline escaping that's needed to deal with their special attacks? And will their attacks move escaping decently?

Thanks in advance

The furthest back log I can find right now where I'm hunting them has my character at:

Strength : 49 Reflex : 67
Agility : 54 Charisma : 31
Discipline : 99 Wisdom : 40
Intelligence : 50 Stamina : 45

Shield Usage: 477 17%
Leather Armor: 477 13%
Light Chain: 385 06%
Cloth Armor: 228 39%
Parry Ability: 497 74%
Light Edged: 448 13%
Medium Edged: 447 46%
Light Thrown: 466 50%
Offhand Weapon: 454 79%
Evasion: 558 97%
Perception: 683 44%
Hiding: 634 12%
Stalking: 607 64%
Escaping: 312 71%
Backstab: 480 50%
Skinning: 503 24%
The escaping is mostly from kartais, I'm not convinced it really does anything in there. At those ranks/stats I would occasionally catch an unlucky web+double fireball in my face, but generally was fine, and everything learned well.

o ya, I can't comment on the escaping learning, it bounced between 0/34-1/34 and didn't really move.

The last log I can find before I moved to stompers has me...
too lazy to edit it all pretty or track down all the skills, apparently I don't ever hit exp all to make it ez but this should giveu an idea of how far they'll take you-ish.

Cool, I'm just about right at that first log posted in most of my skills, so I'm gonna give them a whirl - glad to know that they won't completely tear me to shreds.

Apes, Malchata Questions 05/11/2011 07:43 AM CDT
Ratha Celps have really started to slow my weapon training to the point its not a great spot for me. Its not due to the critter not teaching, but more of a gen rate issue.

How are Black Apes in comparison? Is the mud in the area a huge issue to get around? I've never spent time training escaping and have about 15 ranks total.

What about the Malchata, is their anything about them that makes then a less than desirable hunting area/critter?

Just trying to figure out where to head next, and don't want to deal with getting off the islands if my next step really needs to be Kresh for celps, I'd rather not exile myself in Kresh if I don't have too, but I can get by there if need be. I also have been backtraining some other weapons for fun, and I doubt there's anything in Kresh I can train my 100 ranks of Crossbow on.

Im a 90th circle barbarian, Thanks in advance for help/answers.

So maybe just move to Mer'Kresh?

Yup I know that's the obvious answer, but want to look at the other options first, which was kind of the point of the question... I mean I did write the following in the same post.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, part of my post disappeared it seems when I went back to edit it.

What specifically are you going to be missing if you go to Mer'Kresh, if it's just Crossbow - You can probably hop over to M'riss for Peccs or Caracals, with high enough agility (which I think you're probably OK as a 90th barb).

If its something else, what is it?

I wasn't trying to be snarky, I was just more curious if there was an option other than celps in kresh, more specifically if anyone could shed some light on the various aspects of apes and malchatas and what they are like to hunt, especially apes with low escaping. I didn't want to travel from ratha to the mainlands only to find out I really should have just sucked it up and gone to kresh.

There are other options, none probably as good as what you could do on the "M" islands for a while.

I would suggest the Boar Clan area. If the Ratha celps are slowing down for you, then the apes and zombies of Boar Clan should be a good next level critter for you. The mud in apes isn't an issue unless you get far up into the hunting area (northern and eastern portion). If you do find yourself suck in the mud, you can always hunt to another ape.

There are blood vines close by that fall into the training range of your crossbow skill.

Boar clan is top notch for weapons at that level IMO.

I found apes at that level to be wonderful.. If you dont have the agility to get past the parry, just retreat to pole and then advance.. The ape should throw his bone at you, then you can charge and get a few hits in on it or kill it before it picks up another..
