Geni are cursed.
Kartais are undead.
Rituals work on cursed, but not undead. It takes a bit of trial and error to figure out which are which, just because no one not a Necromancer probably cares about the nuances between the two. It's less cared about than corporeal vs noncorporeal.
OK thanks makes a little more sense to me now. I don't do boxes so they seemed like something I would enjoy but no way to learn certain skills there and no want to be condemned to Riss makes Geni the best option.
