Been working combats on my Empath, and he's about to stop learning in Origami by Dirge. Is there a reliable way to bridge the gap between Origami and Gargoyles, or is my best bet just to learn defenses until I can stand up to Gargoyles and whack away at them with my ~50 ranks too low weapons?

There are boggles down in the Shard area too, if you find you aren't quite ready for gargs. They are mixed with the jackals and kobolds and can get pretty swarrmy...if that's a word. But they will get you ready for granite gargs.
