Shield Question - any chance I can get an official answer? 02/19/2014 08:17 AM CST
So in an arm worn situation, is it better to wear a Medium shield with better protection or a Small shield with less protection but less hindrance? I've spoken to a number of people and its a pretty split conversation.

Kodius is the penalty to hundrance for arm wearing a medium shield worth switching to a small? It seems counter-intuitive that a guild able to wear a medium shield would be better of wearing a small shield.

My shield ranks and my evasion ranks are relatively close to each other and over 1100 ranks. I think evasion has shield by 50.

Noob barb here and I've been wondering this exact thing for a while to. If I'm "allowed" to arm wear a medium shield then why am I getting penalized for it? Ie. Two handed weapons, bows, evasion. I do notice a difference when using a medium shield vs buckler arm worn. This doesn't seem right at all. What's the point of allowing medium arm worn if it penalizes us?

Thank you.

In my opinion I've gathered over the years is that it doesn't really become worth the evasion hit unless you go big on shields and its not viable unless your a paladin. Though most of that conclusion was in 2.0 and before new crafting came out. I haven't had the chance to really twst since I no longer play any characters that aren't armor tert.

Keep in mind that this character is a trader in Plat. I have found for this character that arm-wearing a shield is very worthwhile. During much of her career, she used a target shield from the trader shop. Later, a paladin forged her a lumium shield which was about medium sized, but only weighed 90 stones. She's not a ranged-user, so she doesn't have to deal with those issues.
