shield arm-slam + force of impact? 08/25/2013 10:56 PM CDT
Any chance for SLAM to recognize arm-worn shields? I like the idea of sometimes using my shield as an impact-damage generating assistant, especially since I use light/bladed weapons.

I'd also love to be able to see the FoI that shields give, if shields give them (at least I assume they should/do).

The teeth lands a solid (5/23) hit that pokes the teeth into Turul's rear end (more embarrassing than painful!).

I'm curious, what' s everyones opinion on the "best" small shield? Player crafted or quest found.

I'm looking to upgrade this if possible (This is the app while hand-held).

You are certain that it imposes trivial maneuvering hindrance.

This shield is small in size.

Your experience with shields allows a better appraisal of the protection capabilities.

You are certain that the shield offers terrible to moderately good protection.

You are certain that it could do:
somewhat moderate puncture damage
no slice damage
somewhat heavy impact damage
no fire damage
no cold damage
no electric damage

You are certain that the shield is fairly balanced and is poorly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the ordinary shield is practically invulnerable to damage, and is in good condition.

The Targe sold at the Stolen from the moons merchant is one of the best small shields offered currently IMO

You loosen the straps securing your kertig targe and remove it.

You are certain that it imposes minor (4/15) maneuvering hindrance.

This shield is small in size.

Your experience with shields allows a better appraisal of the protection capabilities.

You are certain that the targe offers very poor (4/26) to high (14/26) protection.

You are certain that it could do:
no (0/26) puncture damage
no (0/26) slice damage
great (11/26) impact damage
no (0/26) fire damage
no (0/26) cold damage
no (0/26) electric damage

You are certain that the targe is decently (6/17) balanced and is inadequately (4/17) suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the kertig targe is very strong against damage (14/18), and is in good condition (80-89%).

The kertig targe is made with metal.
It appears that the kertig targe can be worn on the left arm.
You are certain that the kertig targe weighs exactly 40 stones.
You believe that the kertig targe could be worth about a small mint in Lirums.
Roundtime: 8 seconds.

There has always been one thing bugging me about the shield apps. They often app different but compare the same.

For example 2 shields:

App 1:
You are certain that it imposes minor maneuvering hindrance.
This shield is small in size.
Your experience with shields allows a better appraisal of the protection capabilities.
You are certain that the shield offers very poor to moderate protection.

App 2:
You are certain that it imposes minor maneuvering hindrance.
This shield is small in size.
Your experience with shields allows a better appraisal of the protection capabilities.
You are certain that the targe offers very poor to good protection.

Compare:
You are certain that the crocodile-skin shield is weaker than the targe.
You are certain that the crocodile-skin shield is about as easy to maneuver with as the targe.
You are certain that the crocodile-skin shield has about as good of a basic defense as the targe.
You are certain that the crocodile-skin shield has about as good of a full defense as the targe.
You are certain that the crocodile-skin shield weighs less than the targe.
[Roundtime: 8 seconds]

I would like to see one of those moon shields compared with a regular tanned shield. Unless compare is somehow not accurate?

Compare is neither as accurate nor as precise as appraise, and is consequently pointless.

I have been told COMPARE is more accurate for Traders. How much more, I don't know.

Also keep in mind the appraisal changes if you are wearing the shield on your arm verses holding it in your hand. Arm worn has a 25% hit reduction and the appraisal reflects that.

<< Also keep in mind the appraisal changes if you are wearing the shield on your arm verses holding it in your hand.

Yes, i don't know exactly since the other shield was a on a table but my shield doesn't match the app in neither stance. I got moderate in arm slot and very good in regular. The shield on the table apped as good.

<< Compare is neither as accurate nor as precise as appraise, and is consequently pointless.

I wonder why, is it by design? Seems a bit misleading but i guess it is saying about as good, not exactly as good.

<< The Targe sold at the Stolen from the moons merchant is one of the best small shields offered currently IMO

In this case high in the upper end is the highest i've ever seen on a small shield as well. Although Kham has a pretty nice hindrance for those stats.

More precisely, per Kodius: "Compare unfortunately doesn't resolve stats that are within +/- 1, so I wouldn't take things comparing identically to mean they are identical."

He also confirmed somewhere that trader compare was more accuate, but I don't think they can that +/- 1 level of precision, either. Apu has probably made an informative and amusing post about it if not.

Any other tips on where to get a not-quite top-of-the-line small shield? Anything crafted or at the current fest?

I would recommend crafted shields. You can see the stats for each template here:

Best is hard to determine - some people like the lowest weight (therefore least hindering) and some like the heaviest most protecting small shield.

I haven't done any testing on which one suits me the best, but if I was going to go light (assuming normal materials) caracal shield looks like it would be good. If I was going to go heavy I would go with Shalswar. If i wanted something in the middle I would go granite garg.

Shark hide looks interesting for a super light shield if you cared nothing about durability - anyone ever make one of these?
