Shield Templates 10/19/2012 11:02 AM CDT
I'm trying to decide on some shields for a Paladin and a Barbarian. I can't seem to find much information on the differences between some of the larger shields and medium shields.

For larger shields are the Tower Shields the most protective? What are the differences between the Heater Shield, Aegis, Tower shield, Battle Shield, War Shield.

For medium shields, what are the differences between the Skirmisher's shield, Jousting Shield, etc...

Some differences are purely cosmetic (ceremonial vs targe for example) akin to how weapons are. I'm in the slow process of gathering more information, but there are differences in the arm-worn cap across classes.

General rule of thumb that I notice; the higher the volume the higher the protection and hindrance.

I've been trying to fill in Kraggur's Dr Armorcrafting 3.0 spread sheet with data as I can. Unfortunetly I can't craft the larger shields with lumium yet, and most people don't want muracite.

Though, hey data is data.. project for me..

Speaking off....

Did the appraisal tables get updated yet on the spread sheet yet, or are they still the old ranges?

Awesome. I am going to steal this for my own spreadsheet as soon as it's ready. :)

Eyuve you ever going to post your data somewhere?

I have thought long and hard about it. There are a couple of things that are currently preventing me:

1) Google docs will not let me hide my email address as the owner. It contains my real name and I'd rather not share that. I could of course set up an alternate email but then I would have to log into that separately every time I wanted to update the sheet.

2) I worry that people will yell at me if it's incomplete/not updated. Or if they offer to help me update and I say no. Or if they inundate me with things to add and I don't feel like doing it.

3) No one has been interested (until now). I once posted asking if it was something people would like and was met with resounding crickets.

If anyone can come up with a good workaround for these problems (particularly problem 1), and people here post saying they actually want me to do it, I will clean it up a bit and make it so.

I'm currently at about 800 weapon entries, 1000 armor entries, 120 container entries, and a smattering of shield entries (darn changes).

If it's just a massive data dump I don't mind making it a pet project on epedia. They already have that stuff for many weapons as it is.

It is a Google spreadsheet. I would not want to change the format from a spreadsheet.

I could theoretically just post a downloadable link to it and update that periodically I suppose. It would be slightly more hassle for me (though maybe less than a new email address) and would mean slower updates for everyone else. Definitely not the convenience of a web site. If I can make it a public Google spreadsheet then it would be updated in real time for everyone.

Unless you're using something involving formulas, if it's data tables those can be converted to epedia.

I suspect it would be simply too many columns for epedia. But feel free to IM me at Eyuve sometime and we can discuss it.
