Does Short Staff even merit training?
As a new character what staff could/should I start with? Think store bought.

No. If you want to train it, do Quarterstaff instead for now. Its nnt quite as bad to train, and the two skills will combine in a few months letting you use SS weapons as if you had trained them all along.

Unless you want something to train with offhand, then SS can be a better skill to do then QS

I was curious as to your reasons for this. I've trained mainly QS, and it seems to train OW fairly well. Have you had better results using SS to train OW?
