Pole Weapon combos 11/30/2009 05:40 PM CST
This is a copy and paste from the one I put in pikes:

My character, of course, is pike primary, halberd secondary.

Recommended Combos:

For standard, puncture pikes:
Jab -> Thrust -> Lunge -> Repeat

This goes to incredible, is pure puncture, and has the two most powerful pike attacks there are consecutively. I contend that it is the best combo. If you have the stamina, and you run into a resistant critter, remember that the damage caused by slam is pure impact and based on the weight of the weapon. Consider for a moment that pikes are generally very heavy weapons. Add the slam after lunge.

For Ngalios and Pike-based Khujs, or any other slash pike:
Jab -> Sweep -> Slam -> Repeat

This combo makes use of all 3 damage classes and gets a fair number of sweeps and slams in per unit time, the powerful slice and impact maneuvers available with the weapon. The jab is more for balance, but even the worst puncturing pike I've ever seen has fair puncture (with the exception of the ones I forged with about 50 FF. Its hard to forget my p/p/l javelins).

For Slashing Halberds:
Draw -> Sweep -> Slice -> Chop -> Repeat

Think slicer edged weapons, but swap the sweep and slice. Goes to incredible, yadieyada. All decently powerful moves making use of the halberd's impact and slice.

For Stabbing Halberds:
Thrust -> Lunge -> Jab -> Slam

As always, combo goes to incredible and makes use of the halberd's stabbing potential. Also has a solid impact based maneuver, slam, which delivers a nice shot as halberds tend to be heavy.

QS and SS should use the same combos as a slicer halberd. As for halberd forgers, I believe I'm the only one who's taken it up recently. Halberds use heads, like axes and blunts. They ARE grindable, and producing heavy/heavy/poor fair/fair Average Strength halberds at 37 stones requires it. The impact damage, to the best of knowledge, can be considerably increased with weight. I haven't quite capped the weapons yet, but I'm very close. Currently, the best weapon I can achieve is heavy/heavy/fair poor/reasonable Average Strength. I have it on decent authority that a fully capped halberd in the 60's or 70's caps at great/great/(fair or mod, forget which) poor/(reasonable or well, once again, forget which). I have several h/h/f p/r available, and am sitting around the crossing for a while if anyone wants one. No charge.

<<QS and SS should use the same combos as a slicer halberd.>>

For QS I use:

feint -> draw -> slice -> thrust -> feint sweep -> chop -> jab -> bob

The million dollar question:

Do you find them to out perform the all mighty Khuj?

Depends on whether or not you:

A) Have considerable strength
B) Have high stamina and/or use berserks
C) Use charge or other stab-heavy maneuvers

I always charge, being a berserker barbarian. I find the charge is immensely powerful because of the puncture power. For the standard heavy slicers though, I don't know. I never used a khuj. I have always had other weaponry that suited my purposes better at the time.

I think you mean Draw - Slice - Sweep - Chop.

Once you reach min RT on the Khuj, it is the weapon to use. The crap-tastic impact ratings on similarly weighted forged halberds just don't allow them to rack up the kills. Furthermore most of that puncture damage is wasted when using the best moves (slice/sweep/chop).

How about the khuj vs. the lochaber axe?

Hard for me to tell the difference, though with compare the khuj is better. I recently broke my axe and swapped to the khuj because it's closer to shard to buy. On the balance the lochaber axe wins because I know what it looks like whereas khuj is not a google-able weapon.

The Khuj wins because the Lochaber Axe is much more fragile and more expensive. I still have never broken my Khuj. I would prefer the Axe otherwise because I don't like the Khuj's name.

I don't think you can really make this assessment without trying the khuj at all. The khuj is such a powerful weapon that it's almost criminal to not try it. Even with 90 strength and being able to handle much heavier weapons, I still find the 62 stone khuj is king.

I believe the general consensus is to google the "bhuj"

Actually, if you're doing google images. You need to google bhuj weapon
To rule out the other options.

It's not a great fit as a pole-range weapon, though, it seems to be principally a knife.

Then again we've got Dao daggers and sword Karambits... so that could still be it.

Nothing compares to slicing katars.
