Why were existing crossbows nerfed down in stats? All the crossbows that I use have dropped down in at least 6 points of FOI.

Mine seems to be OK. Maybe someone finally heeded my calls to "nerf Uritel." Or, you slipped, fell and CoZ'ed yourself? Never noticed its effects on XBs... Not sure if it affects them this way. In either case, score one, Warb.

Ha. I will try again when I get home, but my grey raven repeater and the dragon hx from the museum both dropped six points in foi. I forget to check my stonebow though.

Thats pretty disappointing if so, but I am hoping it is not intended. I thought those repeaters were being retired, but left alone.

I too will be pretty miffed. I've collected a lot of cool crossbows over the years. A lot of old hard hitting ones.

Do I need to go through every crossbow to show that there's a problem? Not sure if this was intended (Kodius said there weren't going to be any changes, but heh) so that tinkering would now appear to be "better" than storebought, but.. yeah.

Maybe? 17 points is a pretty big range to begin with, creating more "grey" points would seem a little backwards, I'd think.

Kodius already posted that the issue is that the Test server is still using old appraisal code for the force of impact stat so it's not displaying properly. No word on whether he was able to update it yet or not. The stats themselves have not changed.

Hm. Well, these appraisals are in prime, not test. But okay. Maybe I am missing how test appraisals are impacting things in prime. It happens.

I'm not sure how a system that is currently only in Test would affect your prime copy of the crossbow. Might want to indicate where your appraisals are coming from next time, since it would help avoid confusion. As for why... He might have made some behind the scenes stealth updates to prime in preparation for release and accidentally pushed older code from test through. Not sure.

And for some reason I can't seem to find his post where he said this. Either I simply can't find it or else he deleted or edited it. It might have been a mistaken post, and he found an actual difference and is looking into it or something. vOv

I am unaware of any changes to Prime that would affect crossbows. It isn't usually feasible to selectively "nerf" a weapon group without a substantial investment of time and effort for testing. The chance of breaking every weapon in the game is too high, and the cost for a restore would be my job. Likely some adjustments to the FOI appraisal ranges slipped in while a GM was working on something else.

The 17 ranges have to cover 100's of points of range. Sometimes, for example with the new bows, we end up hitting a new "high", so I need to restructure the levels below it a bit.

So old crossbow still has the same stats, but just looks different because the new "high" skews the margins?

AFAIK the same as the gross majority (or all) of the other times this came up with armor and so on.

I think people are suggesting/enquiring that the scale still goes to 17, but the old range from 1-17 is now measured from 1-11 and there's 6 new levels above that. I.e. the current messaging just got squished down so they could fit more messaging levels in. I don't know if this is true or not, since Kodius didn't actually say that (or anything else) was the case.
