Are there any succinct comparisons between the different hide leathers out there? I have no idea the difference between any of them. I'm not sure I want to go leather but as a field empath I actually realize I need some sort of armor now.
Thank you.

Yes. I think it was Hanryu that did a rather extensive comparison, but it may have been someone else.

Vision's tanning experiments are old, and not completely up to date anymore, but it's a pretty good resource until someone updates it.

Yeah, I noticed that the database lacks newer stuff, but as far as I'm aware the formulas never really shifted, right?

To the best of my knowledge, correct.

The formulas are all the same. However, the way appraisal ranges work, without trader comparisons between all of the armors (a herculean effort), it's fairly meaningless info.

This should help. There maybe a few things missing but all the commonly accepted "good" stuff along with a lot of other items is there.

So for a survival tert who wants to back train stealth (hiding 125, stalking 410) what would be best to get, cave troll? Currently leather armor at 80 or would I do better to go with cloth? Evasion is 600+. Any suggestions on where to train would also be appreciated.

firecats are a good armor with low hinderince and is generally what people with low leather armor goes with.

The specific leather armor you use won't affect your stealth hinderance any more. Feel free to go with heavier leather armor once you have the ranks to fully work down the hinderance.
