Just back after a really long sleep, like or can deal with most changes made. But how do you all train bow now if ya get penalties for retreating which is sorta silly since no archer would stand at melee in dr or any life situation and let people swing at them am em:>.If this has a thread somewhere please direct at there is a mountain of posts to sift through after being gone so long.

Short answer, stance shield/evasion and let folks swing at you while you shoot them. Or hide. Its a brave new world.

You have to use shield + evasion and train it at melee. The changes to how defenses works makes this quite doable. It would behoove you to pick up and wear a parry stick though so that when you swap from a melee weapon to a bow your pary stick will take a parry until you reset your stance to evasion and shield.

Mostly you train it at melee, ideally using stealth. If you're hidden you won't have to worry about retreating. If it helps maintain your suspension of disbelief, think of melee as a few yards away while you're in hiding. If you're a Ranger of sufficient circle you can Snipe and Dual Load. If you're a Barbarian you can Dual Load. You can arm-wear shields now (shield size dependent upon your armor skillset placement) so you'll want to maximize evasion and shield in your combat stance.
Get a modern shaped bow and shaped arrows. For training most people use a cherry or rare wood shaped Nisha. If you're bow primary you probably want a couple different types of arrows for differing damage types depending on what your prey's weaknesses are.

I shove. That way I don't have to retreat and take a penalty, and they are on the ground, at pole. Easy day.

Tactic is wonderful in general with bow for maintaining balance while keeping your target down and out. Stealth is nice too but sometimes you lose a few arrows that way.
