minimum ranks necessary to cast a spell 12/20/2018 11:35 AM CST

I have life magic as a ranger and am looking into getting some of the advanced spells that require at least 250 ranks.

Life Magic: 203 24% enthralled (32/34)
Arcana: 191 65% very riveted (29/34)
Augmentation: 194 51% very rapt (31/34)
Debilitation: 157 44% concentrating (9/34)
Utility: 147 69% attentive (10/34)
Warding:106 00% considering (6/34)

SO i was wondering when the life magic skill is up to 250 will it compensate for the fact that augmentation or utility is lower.

awaken forest spell, cheetash swiftness, bear strenghth, memory of nature are the spells that i am looking at. i have the spells slots but am wondering if it is a must that the augmentation and utilty skill have to be at 250 for those spells to work properly.

magic tert is a problem for those advanced spells

I think you'll still be too low. PM will make up some difference, but only if it's above where you need to be. You might consider grabbing the feats like Augmentation Mastery as I think they will make your effective ranks higher.

Get the augmentation and utility mastery feats. Find a cleric to cast Sanctify Pattern on you for one or the other. And just keep trying to cast a minimum mana until it works. You can pull it off with those numbers, but you'll have a lot of failed casts in the process.

You won't need more than 250 ranks of PM. I was able to start casting Holy Warrior (a 250 rank spell) on Paladin with 217 PM, 177 Utility, 175 Warding. It was VERY hard to cast then, waiting until it had been prepped for 35 seconds or so resulted in it casting once every 8-12 attempts. At 226 PM, 186 Warding and 188 Utility I can cast it every 3rd attempt or so.
